Monday

Monday is always busy. Exercise, Choir rehersel, Methodist church service. Sophie you know Bruce Case fron Highland -he was Rob's roomate on the trip to Turkey. He led our church service Monday. Later after dinner we had music in the Activity Room. I am not a big fan of gospel music but we had a quartet from Yazoo City to sing last night. The piano player was amazing. He was blind but he could still play and was very interesting to watch. Home to watch some T V and read a little. All in all it was a good day.

I could imagine Paul and David saying--"Why do they bring that "Old Girl" every time?" I wonder sometime too. She can"t hear well. Has trouble seeing in a dark room. and can"t keep up with all the lively talk. But she trys. "Bless her heart" Just glad to be here.

WHAT!!! RAIN AGAIN?

I woke to thunder and rain at 6:00 a.m. It is amazing how much rain we have had and other parts of the U.S. have none. I had breakfast of waffles with bluberries and bacon in the Cyber. Not many customers at 7:30. Oh well I don't like to talk much before breakfast anyway. Jan, Amy, and M.G. came for lunch. They brought treats. Watermelon. cherries. cooked squash and M.G."s home grown red and yellow tiny tomatoes and red and green bell peppers. We had fun and I am so blessed. I hope they know how much I enjoy their visits. They came on Friday. They are all busy today and I will find people to visit, have coffee and read my good books. Tomorrow is another day. And as Truman used to pray--"Thank you Lord for a day in your Kingdom" I can still feel him squezing my hand as he prayed. Thank you Lord for sweet memories. Make many of your own!!!!!

LADIES AND POLITICS

They just don"t mix. Especially at dinner and me enjoying my black bean soup and the best quiche lately. I do not know who to believe. I topped it off with bluberries and coffee and forgot about the conversation. Not very "American" but the best I could do. I am reading Nicholas Sparks' latest--THREE WEEKS WITH MY BROTHER. True story and different from his other novels. And a delightful book{not new}--MRS WASGINGTON and HOROWITZ TOO-- by Henery Denker. They are so different and I keep going from one to the other. To change the subject, I just got back from eating breakfast in the Cyber, Not many at 7:00 A, M. Bobbie cooked eggs over light just the way I like them. Don't tell but I had a sausage patty and a biscuit. Not Ashley's but pretty good. Now I must go and redeem myself and wash my clothes. What a life. It still amazes me. I guess it does not take much to please me.

STORIES

I wrote another story for my writing class. It was based on camping and how we told stories around the campfire. One of the stories Truman made up {there were a few} was about this little girl woth a yellow dress with red pokadots. She ate a lot of bananas. Do you remember it? I told it a little different but from his idea. Crazy me.

SUNDAY

Not much different happened today. Church is always good. We sang SHALL WE GATHER AT THE RIVER. You may remember I chose that song to sing at Truman's funeral. He always liked it. Kind of stirred up memories. We had lunch at RED LOBSTER. Another favorite of his. I can remember him now without crying. I guess that is good. Anyway it is progress. I am not sure I like that kind of progress. Altho I know it is healthy--I am afaraid of the future in a way. Our Choir is singing for Seina 1 where Truman was today. I can't go. I have been over ther one time simce he died and it was too hard. They will have to do without me today. I wont be missed.

RAIN

Rain does not bother me. I kind of like the mood it puts me in. Kind of slows me. And makes me reflective. When you live like I do --there is not much to worry about. Really it is unreal. Sometime I feel a little guilty, but this is the end stage of life, when you look back and see what a struggle it all was. Now it is a looking game-waiting to see what happenes next. A place I think I have found comfortable and enteresting and just happy to be here, I don't mean to sound as if I have not enjoyed my life-I have very few regrets. Some things maybe I would have done different. But I still have many many chances to do new things that make every day new ane full. Lord where did all that come from.? I guess I am letting the writing thing go to my head??

Any way This is the day the Lord hath made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

A WRITER WHO NEEDS AN EDITOR

I mispelled the word poems and also think. Check it out. I took meds to help me sleep last night ==so I will blame it on that. Too strong for me it affects my sight this morning and I still did not sleep well. Will not do that again.

CREATIVE WRITING GROUP

The class was fun. I enjoyed hearing others read what they wrote. Our director asked me if she could submit my story to be published in the next VILLAGER. A publication of the RESIDENT' ASSOCIATION. Published every month. I was surprised. I did not think it all that good. I got a few suggestions and I will tweek it to be better. It came from my book CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF LITTLE DOT. I wrote it and gave it to my grandchildren one Christmas. You may not remember it. I drew stick pictures for each story. If you still have it --the story I read was BUCATUNA COUSINS. I told them I wrote porms and was told to bring some next time. I will thik about that--they are personal--but then so are the stories. My creative jucies are about dry. But I will try.

ONE DAY AT A TIME

Nothing new. I lost the watermelon weight guessing contest. It weighed 30 lbs and some ounces. Virgina won it--she should--she is the one who is growing watermelons in the garden on the hill. She was happy. I am going to the Creative Writing class today. I may be embarresed but I am going to read a story I wtote. Me who can not even spell much less write good. I do like to put thoughts on the page. Maybe I will learn a thing or two. I know I have a lot to learn. But writing is so personal. Rain and more rain. Thank the Lord.

SATURDAY AT ST. CATHERINES

My day started early with a MAKING GOOD THINGS BETTER committee meeting, We took all the 4th's decorations down that we so gleefully put out. We have a great number of people to work. We really made short work of it. I went to the Cyber to have coffee. where a lady asked if I was going to the funeral. Who died I asked? She said a poor little sparrow flew into the windowpane and killed itself. We had a good laugh over that. She is an artist and paints some pretty work including birds. I decided to take my "Hall" walk before reading on two good books I am reading before Jan came for lunch. Guess what--it turned into a party with Jan,Tommy, Cary, and David Jan and me "the old girl". We had fun. David and Jan had babyback ribs. They said they were good. I will have to try them sometime. They left and I had a nap. then shampoo and back to my books. Now don"t I have an easy life?. By the way our Beach picture David took of the whole group is proudly hanging on the"bragging rights" board for all to see. I am so proud of all my family.

GOOD DAY

Amy and I had some business on Lakeland today. We had lunch at a favorite place. Grants" Kitchen. The veggies are just like I and other southern cooks do them. Not greasy but not half cooked either. Just right. Cornbread like the South too==no sugar or flour. The owner said he was going to build one in Ridgeland right away. I told him we at St Catherines would be good customers.Seems as if I talk about food a lot.

4TH

I had a good fourth. We sang so goooood. At least I thought we did. Had a good lunch buffet here. Almost any thing you could think of from brunch food all the way through ribs, cicken, beand salads baked sweet potato green beans breads pecan pie watermelon and soup to began with. I think I may have missed some things but I was very careful not to eat too much. I watched T V for celebrations--always good and from my balcony I watched a good fireworks show put on my Madison at Liberty Park. It was very good and beautiful reflecting over the Lake. Some sat on the terrace but I could watch it from my balcony (in my nightgown) Best of both worlds. Let us remember why we celebrate the 4th and how blessed we are to have such freedom.

HOT ENOUGH FOR YOU?

That is the question you hear from everyone you meet. Yes, yes, yes-- Maybe a little relief in a few days from scattered showers. We practiced for our Summer Concert ( so called) yesterday. We will sing on the 4th for everyone. A mixture of old favorites and all the good old 4ths songs. I do love to sing this kind. We sounded good at practice and I hope it will be enjoyed. We are not real hard to please here at the Village. Don"t mind me. When you live 85 years, you have lived through a lot. Lot of ups and downs. I think my motto will be"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." See you later.
