LONG TIME==NO SEE

I am missing Ashley and Whitney on the blog.  But then I have been missing a few days too.  No reason, just not much to say.  I just got back from breakfast.  Trying to use up my food allowance.  Truman taught me well.  Of course I was brought up that way too.  We are all planning our Fall camping trip.  Slim crowd.  Just the "cream of the crop?"  No really . more like the "die hards."  Fall is a good time.  We can justify the camp fire.  Of course we will have plenty to eat and plenty of laughs and "old" stories to tell.  I wish we could hear some of Truman's.  (real and made up).  Tell you what--get out your copy of TRU=BE=BE=DO and read  it, While you are at  it, also read my little book, CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF LITTLE DOT.  A little bragging never hurt. Make no mistake, you may think of Truman and I as old{and we are} but we were once young and lived some of the same things that you do now.  Just a different time zone but the basics are there.  Enjoy and "make memories"  Believe me, they will be worth remembering.   As Forrest Gump would say,"That's all om going to say about that"

SATURDAY

I did not have breakfast in the Cyber with my "breakfast" friends this morning  Takes too much time and I wanted to go to Wal-Mart and get back to get ready for my guest.  Jan, Tommy, Cary, and David had lunch with me and we ate on the Terrace.  It was so nice out there this noon.  We all had burgers.  Tommy and David hat steak burger and we girls had turkey burgers.  They had fries and me fruit.  I just can't eat potatoes any more.  They run my sugar up more than anything.  Even candy.  I wish people would not tempt me with Haloween candy at every door.  Jan had pictures to show and told us a lot about her trip.  I am glad she got to go.  It was a good experience. Well goodnight-I must go to bed and hope to sleep.  I still wake a lot but usually go back to sleep right away. but this broken sleep is not good.

FRIDAY

Not much to say for today so far.  It is about 2:00 and all I have accomplished is exercise class and coffee.  Laundry, lunch in my apartment.  I picked it up from the Cafe.  Their chicken salad is good.  Nap and now waiting for the maid to come clean and I will read a book  in the bubble room while she works.  So you see--so far-- just routine stuff.  But the day is not over, maybe I will hear a humorous story or a great quote before the day ends.  If not--so be it.  If I do, you will be the first to hear it.  Now you have something to look forward to.  Ha Ha!!

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

I did something different this morning,  No activity going on so I went in hunt of "free" coffee (Truman taught me this}."  I went into the Activity Center and it was full of decorated tables waiting for the big Hamburger dinner tonight.  It is a Burger &Blues.  Put on by the Community Trust Bank.  All free and the sign ups are full.  I did not plan to go because there is so much I can not eat and big things like that bother me a little. Anyway the free coffee was all out, so I bought a cup and went to the Lake front and found a delightful spot in the sun and it was just right.  Not a cloud in the beautiful October sky and not too cold and not too hot.  I am not bad company sometime. What will I do next?  We will see.  I have Michael Buble'  singing just to me.  I am glad Linda gave me a few of his CD's.  Some are old songs, his style.
Thought for the day.  "Stop.  Look around.  God is near"  Excuse my preaching!

REPORT

A report on "day of rest"  I recommend it.  The only time I left my apartment was to pick up my mail and dinner and to walk in the halls.  I did little things like to straightened out my sock drawer!!  Short summer ones put away and out came the longer top versions and knee top and tights.  I am dreaming of cold weather and maybe a little  snow.  When I came back from walking. my neighbor, Mary Louise, had left delicious muffins.  How sweet.  I did feel better till I watched the debates.  I can not decide who to vote for.  I wish Abraham Lincoln was still alive.  I do not believe we have truly good statesman any more.  Well I must go.  Maybe I will get to the underwear drawer soon and get to feeling better again. Try a day of  rest.  You may like it.

A DAY OF REST

After a day like yesterday, I need a day of rest.  Monday's are always too full anyway.  I was stopped by a problem with my kitchen sink stopping up.  I called at 12 noon and they said they would be here in a hour.  Not so.  I called again at 2.  I could tell I would be late for choir .  They came at 4 and I had to miss Methodist Church service.  Almost missed my dinner date with "my regular girls"  It got me thinking--maybe I fill my days too full and tho I love it, maybe I need not get upset if I miss sometime?  Anyway. I am taking it slower today.  No rush, they will wait for me.

Another quote: " Thoughtfulness, adds sweetness to our lives."  So do something thought full for someone today --even if that someone is you!!

MONDAY AGAIN ?

I woke at 5:30 this morning. I was going about my usual routine when I decided to make a loaf of cinnamon bread to take to coffee before exercise class.  I only brought back 2 slices. I will give them away when I meet someone hungry for a sweet.  Speaking of sweets-little bowls of trick or treat candy are showing up at decorated doorways.  Thank goodness we do not dress up because I would have to jain in.  That seems to be my "middle name"  Joining up!  It seems strange but we are working on Christmas music at Choir.  It takes us a while especially with the Latin and all.  I think our director has wild dreams for us.  I hope we don't disappoint her.  Must go and eat some home made soup for lunch.  Will it be chili? bean? veggie? or chicken?  Desions   Desions !!

SATURDAY

The same breakfast bunch today.  It is getting to be a regular and fun treat for me.  If I leave off the toast or biscuit, I get to have grits.  Much to the disgust of a couple of Yankees.  You can't talk them into grits.  No NoNo!!  Hey. I feel sorry for them.  Let them eat hash browns.  Oh well, we had fun.  It still surprises me that I get up to have breakfast at 7'clock with these dudes.  Just on Saturday.  Kroger again and cooked my dinner of a grilled (top of stove} chicken breast on top of mixed greens. So good.  Especially to end it with chocolate pudding (sugar free)  with peanut butter stirred in.  I used to make Truman a pudding from scratch with peanut butter and coco.  He loved it.  This tasted good too but not as good as homemade.  Well I must get ready for church  My sweet Amy will pick me up. Jan gets home today.  Can't wait to hear about her trip.

WORK TO DO--STRENGTH TO DO IT

I mean by work, selling books again.  It really is not much work but it sure is fun.  I got to see everyone passing by as I was set up by the Cyber and post office.  Everyone goes there,  The comments are all the same,  "I have too many books and stuff in my apartment already,  but I can not pass the books."  We did have some beautiful books.  One lady bought a paperback  {five for a dollar or 25 cents each}  It was a racey one and she was going to put it in a birthday card for a friend who she said would not be caught dead reading it.  I told her to be sure and read it first.  {laughter from her  But I bet she read it. Breakfast with a group of friends.  I am so blessed.  Now get to work.  Hair wash, laundry. and Kroger--all on the agenda for today.  I need to get tired so I can sleep better.  O my the nights are hard still.

TOSS THE BUMS OUT!!

Got you didn't I?  No not "bums", but books.  Yesterday we had a big book sale.  Hard backs--$1.00--paper backs==5 for a $1.00.  Workers worked for days to purge the Library of books that had not been checked out for a while.  All this to make room for new books which they are buying all the time.  I worked from 1:30 till 3;30 selling and I am going to do the same this afternoon.  I love our library.  While I am not on that committee(thank goodness)  they needed extra help for the sale.  We had a lot of good books for sale.  Amy came and bought two.  It was fun and got to see almost everyone go by as it was in the main hall.  I had a great turkey burger. for lunch from the Cyber.

I watched the vice president debate last night.  I got so mad at Biden that I wanted to slap that smirk off his face.  He was very very rude.  I know debates are like this but I think he was bad.  Truman belonged to a Debate Club at the bank.  They would debate other young bankers.  I could not watch it without getting mad at them attacking my husband.

TUESDAY

This has been a strange day  Nothing fits together.  I made bean soup and got it almost finished and discovered I only had beef broth.  I usually put chicken.  I made it with beef.  While it taste "different", I guess I can eat it.  I put onions, carrots, celery and beans{usually navy bean} and ham.  I left the ham out of the beef soup.  Well I  created a new one. I will call it CONFUSION  soup and eat it.

Better tomorrow

Amy said Ed had a fire laid and ready to light for tonight.  Lordy . I miss a fireplace.   You can't have it all.

SATURDAY---so far

My weekly treat--breakfast in the Cyber  I am staying away from those wonderful pancakes and waffles.  As good as they are, they are not worth what they do to my blood-sugar count.  I had a cheese omelet and bacon.  Very good.  The company was good. Did a little ironing.  These clothes in transition are filling my closet.  I need to give some away that I never will wear.  I am like Truman.  I always told him that he made "friends" with his clothes and could never part with them.  So be it.  We are celebrating Jan's birthday tonight at David and Cary's house.  Can't believe my middle one is 61.  We always have a good time.  Wish all of you could be here.

FRIDAY

Not a lot going on  Exercise class as usual and then I went to Patty Peck Honda and got a free car wash.  Now that is service with a smile.  And it is just down the road--real close.  Went to my favorite store-THE DOLLAR TREE.  Bought birthday cards.  I give so many up here that I buy most of them  there.  They are nice and 2 for a $1.00!!!  Of course I make them special with a small version of my tissue flowers.  People think I have worked for hours.  Sooo simple yet they say "I care"  My maid cleaned today and I did my washing.  Now what is left for Saturday?  I am sure I will find something of interest to do.   I think I will make my own dinner.  I need to be by myself.  That is what is so good about this place.  You can choose.  Thank you Lord for St. Catherines. I have felt Truman's presence so strong today.  That is a good thing and I am thankful. yet a good cry because I miss him was also on the agenda today.  I am o. k.

Korea Children's Choir

One of the best programs we have had here was yesterday.  59 children age from 8--14.  They are on tour and we were lucky to have them sing for us free.  I have never heard anything like them.  If you hear them and go away sad --something is wrong with you.  They were the sweetest and happiest group I have ever seen.  They really excited us all. Shirley gave me a CD and it is real good.  Went to sleep during the debates.  Only trying to do the American thing and listen.  I guess I was tired but I could not keep my eyes open.  O well--what will be ==will be !!

BIG DAY

Started with a Flu shot.  Yes St. Catherine with Medicare offered flu shots free.  A first for St. C's,  I'll take it.  Went with Amy to deliver flowers from Broad meadow to a lady in Highland Home where Truman was for a while.  I did not feel as bad as I thought I would.  I did not like that place for him. Went to Freshway on Old Canton and it is a wonderland for fall.  Never saw so many pumpkins!!.  She bought some as well as flowers to put in Jan's yard for her birthday. She does this every year as her present to her.  We then had lunch at Traceway Grill.  Nothing but Southern food.  Fried green tomatoes were excellent as well as everything else.  Jan met us and we took flowers to a resident here that we all love.  Husband is still on Seina here. Topped it with a concert by a young pianist from China and then coffee with 5 other "old girls" You would not think them old if you could hear the conversations which was from politics to "shady" jokes.  The teased me for not telling any.  Could not think of any.  Supper was a meat loaf sandwich.  Something I love.  Amy makes the best.  Dancing With the Stars and off to bed.  I would say that was a full day.  The way I like them.
