CHANGE-of-PLANS

I was all hyped up and half dressed to go when I got a phone call.  Kveta,Activity Coordinator for Siena I  asked me along with another poet here to read some of our poems to the  group there in Siena I this morning.  I have been preparing and looking forward to it.  Illness in Siena made them cancel for fear of spreading the illness. (Not Ebola.)  Any way it was a let down because I was looking forward to .  We will do it later.  O. K. now what?  I do need to go to Wal-Mart.  Can't seem to get the energy up.  Maybe lunch and a nap and I will be good ,to go.

Amy, M. G and Ryan had lunch with me yesterday.  Enjoyed their visit.  They are so ready for the wedding.  Wont be long now.

UNDER THE WEATHER

I hate being sick.  But it happens.  I miss so much that I like to do, then on the other hand, everyone needs a break.  I am much better and I think now I will make it.  My breakfast friend said this morning that she had been missing me.  Her husband said she looked for me all over.  She had apples that they had picked in St. Louis while on a visit.  She made a wonderful (I hear) apple cake and I missed it.  But she gave me a sack of apples.  I intend to make applesauce..  They are the cooking kind and will be better that way.  Friends. I never knew I could have so many.  I am truly blessed.  I hope I do not have to pay for that waffle I just ate.  I can't always figure it out. Sometime I get away with sugar and sometime I don't.  I have decided to take a few chances.  Why not?

THIS THAT AND the OTHER

I KNOW ,  that is a cop-out for NOTHING MUCH GOING ON.  I wish it would rain and turn cooler.  I am afraid we will miss Fall altogether.  My favorite season of the year is Fall.  I am tired of these old and tired summer clothes.  I made veggie soup hoping I could bring on cool weather.  So you see, nothing much to tell.  I did enjoy Sunday lunch with the favorite crew.  Sophie, Paul. Ryan, M. G. and Amy.  A new (to me) Japanese place in Ridgeland.  I liked it, the way you ordered was different and fun.  The food was very good.  Would like to go another time.

The Halls of St, Catherine are really decorated for Halloween.  It seems a very fun time for most people.  Of course mine looks the best.  It brings back 'fun times when my kids dressed up and roamed the neighborhood for CANDY!!!!  I loved to sneak some of it.  Not much dressing up here now but candy everywhere.  I have to be careful these days not to eat much but I can be selective and eat a favorite once in a while.  Kit Kat. I will now go do my laundry.  You really need to know that fact.

My new poem for the November issue of THE VILLAGER

TOM TURKEY"S FATE

Three fat turkeys
Sitting on a fence.
Their future a little bit murky.
One flew away-----his defense.

Number two shook with fear.
I must find a way out.
Think I'll go have a beer.
He flew away with a shout.

Now number three must be smart.
Thinking, It came to him with a start.
I'll just fly to Washington, D.C.
Maybe Obama will pardon me????

UPDATE

Toe is a beautiful rainbow color in shades of purple, yellow and bright pink.  Sounds pretty?  Not so pretty to me.  I am wearing shoes now and I just limp a little so nobody looks at me funny.  Well I caused a little excitement when I went to get my flu shot.  How nice to go down stairs  and walk right in and they even know your name. Well if they did not know it before, they do now.  I signed in and started to roll up my sleeve and it was to tight to roll up enough.  I started to unbutton my shirt and to try to free my arm.  Everybody got excited--"don't do that"  the nurses and other helpers loudly shouted!!.  Oh my what was I thinking.  The nurse ushered me out and around the corned into a secluded corner of the dinning room to get my arm out.  We laughed about it and they said after all, there were two men in there, which I had not noticed--or maybe I did not care?  Anyway, that is done and done as Truman would have said.

Guess what?  I made veggie soup this afternoon.  I had a small cup to taste it, don't you know, it taste pretty good.  I guess I am wishing for cool weather.  I associate making soup with Fall.  Although homemade soup is always good,.  I got to clear out bits and pieces from my fridge.  Well enough for now, will see what else I can stir up.

BLESSED OR WHAT??

My, My, you can't go down these hallowed halls and keep anything to yourself.  Yesterday I was walking barefoot to the shower (of course), and wavered a little to the right and stumped my little toe on the baseboard.  Oh yeah it hurt.  Soon showed singes of an bad bruise.  I gritted my teeth and forged on.  I needed to go pick up new "diabetic shoes,(that is another story)  Amy and I went and the hurt subsided.  After coming home, I felt tired and upset.  We had just enjoyed lunch with Sophie and Paul at a new (to me) restaurant in old Dulling School building in Fondren called SALTINE's I think.  They feature oysters.  So good.  Anyway this morning that little toe did not feel like exercise class, so I gave in and stayed in.  But sooner or later you must get out.  I could not wear my regular shoe so I wore flip flops out to pick up lunch and got noticed.  Had to explain.  Went to Writing class this afternoon in flip flops and on a good day I walk funny in them.  People kept asking what was wrong.  Why was I hopping  or worse limping  Some offered solutions  to my toe accident and some offered stories of doing the same.  I declare one lady was about to take me to the nurse.  A little put out and flustered but then I thought where else but here can you find such concern when you have a problem--not matter what it is? Even a stumped toe!!!

EXCUSE ME

I have a bit of a cold and do not feel top notch .  I thought of a poem I wrote when I had a cold in January,

TIP OF TOP

Ever been in Tip Top Shape?
The world's your oyster to take?
I question just what that means.
I ponder with mind so keen.

Does it mean on top of the tip?
Careful not to slip?
Uncomfortable looking down,
At people on the ground,

All alone, looking down,
Quiet--not a sound.
Careful, your bubble may pop.
Very lonesome--on the top.

After thinking this whole thing through,
This is what I think I'll do.
Ship along, and don't stop.
Stay in the middle--not on Tip Top

A BRODY FIX!!!!

Jan grabs a Brody fix real often.  I had the good fortune to go with her yesterday.  MY OH MY what fun.  When we arrived he was taking a nap.  Much needed by Mom Cary!!.  We watched and listened on the screen as he woke and called out.  He takes his time in waking up and Jan went in to get him.  He sat in her lap waking up and giving me glances that said, "who are you and why are you here?"  I sat patiently waiting.  He gradually woke and began to come "alive."  He entertained us with all sorts of music and dance.  Explaining in short what it was all about.  He can dance too.  He was so amazed with the rain shower we had.  Running from window to window watching  and pointing so we would look. I think he would love to play in the rain.  Like Gene Kelly--just singing in the rain and dancing too.  Oh what a wonderful, smart little "man" .  I really enjoyed watching him and trying to get him to let me hold him.. But, NO.  Maybe next time.  Did I mention how smart he is?  Well he is beyond his one year mark.

Jan's birthday. Glad she was born into my family.
