DAY BEGINS

It started at 6:30.  Can't break a habit.  In this case it is a good one.  It started with a jump start of oatmeal and the most delish  cantaloupe .  It reminded me of Beach Week.  I did miss it this year.  Maybe next year will be a Banner year since I will turn 90 that year in January.  On to Exercise class. Another good habit and the company is first rate.  Makes me feel better.

Tomorrow our Choir sings patriotic music.  I love that program.  I will be sitting on the front row, singing with gusto and wearing red, white and blue and waving a flag.  I am proud to be an American.  One of the songs we sing.  Our world is in a turmoil now, it has been before.  We Americans usually come out front and center.  Pray for that spirit to see us through.

Lot going on with me today, I am getting a much needed haircut and then transform myself back to the "dark haired cutie", as Truman used to call me.  I don't know about cutie anymore, but at least the grey will be gone.

MIXED FEELINGS

As I get older, I have many memories.  We celebrated Amy's birthday at M. G. and Ryans"s house yesterday.  Those two know how to make me feel welcome and loved.  Wow, what a brisket they cooked!!!  Other sides were brought by Jan, Sophie, and I brought myself.  That is a lot for me sometime.  I guess I have had my "day", and should be glad (I am.)  But thinking of Amy and her being my last baby, is sweet and sad.  I really had learned how to loosen up and enjoy her.  I am thankful for that.

Lord help me to treasure the memories of yesterday while embracing the joys of today.

BIRD WATCHING

Jan came to pick up odds and ends --just a little business.  We went to  FRESHWAY MARKET.  The old one I used to go to on Old Canton.  Still there and bigger and better.  I bought Chilton County peaches and Jan bought a cantaloupe as big as a watermelon.  She shared it with me and I shared my peaches.  I also bought two Mississippi grown tomatoes, two ears of corn, green beans and two baby yellow squash.  I will have  feast tonight.  While she was here we started watching birds that were gathering on my balcony.  Three lined up in one spot and down the rail another two or three took their place.  They fussed and carried on till one flew in like a bomber and dropped a morsel (bug I guess) in their open mouths.  Don't know what kind of bird, something I did not know.  It was interesting how they all had their on space and were waiting impatiently for their turn.

TWO FOR ONE

Well that title did not come out just right.  What I meant to say was I had two beautiful, sweet, thoughtful, and fun daughters to lunch yesterday.  We tried a new dish in the Cyber and it was pretty good.  Jan came to pick up the pieces of my business mail.  Lord I have a lot of contact with Doctors and more paper work than anyone I know.  Maybe I just don't know what others have but I will gladly give some of mine away.  Jan works hard to keep me above water.  Amy is my escort to many appointments of various kinds.  Seems I  don't go anyplace for fun any more. I am truly blessed with help and I thank God every day for my family.  So many do not have what I have when it comes to family.  My foot is better. I am glad to wear my shoe again.  I kind of have to remember how to walk right.  But I am getting there.

I wish I could send a picture of my Hibiscus plant.  This morning it has 6 blooms and is beautiful.  I guess it likes sun and warmth because it gets it in abundance on the balcony.  Need to write an ode to it, but nobody would appreciate it as much as my "silly" stuff.  So be it.  It goes with the Village where I live.

STRAWBERRY MOON

While watching the 10;00 P.M. news. the weather man said go look at the strawberry moon.  He said it was not red or pink, just a full moon.  Why strawberry?  He said it was celebrated this year because it was a full moon on the start of summer (solstice)  Last time it came at the same time of a full moon was 70 years ago.  I of course looked it up on my friend Mr. Google.  Too much to take in.  I will take the weather mans view that it comes during strawberry season.  By the way it did not look red or pink--just a beautiful full moon.  From my balcony I have a full view and standing there in the warmth of the night and looking at the moon, I felt all was well.  I slept good last night with just my bare feet, since I do not have to wear the "boot" anymore.  Now that is progress>  Time does march on.  Hope I can keep up with it.

D DAY.

Thar means Dr. Day for me.  Amy took me for a recheck after my procedure.  I am making progress.  Slow but hope for sure.  Ay least I am out of that heavy old boot.  Back down to the half version in my own shoe.  Sneakers all the way for right now.  I had a laser treatment, which does not  hurt at all.  I will go back in two weeks for another.  I don't have to sleep in it either.  That is a good thing.  We had lunch at McAlister's and they have good clam chowder.  On to the grocery store where I went in.  They have moved everything again.  I guess somewhere, somebody has a job, just ordering that they keep us on our toes and mixing things up.  Do you think? Oh well, so be it.

BLUEBERRIES FOR LITTLE DOT

You do know the book BLUEBERRIES FOR LITTLE SAL?  One of my favorite children's books.  My blood sugar was on the low side this morning--perfect time for a pancake.  They are among my weaknesses .  I have Mississippi blueberries in my freezer, so I took some down to the Cyber CafĂ© this morning and had (a) pancake with my blueberries.  Along side of a scrambled egg and bacon and coffee and I had a small feast.  Hope it does not do too much damage.

Since tomorrow is Father's Day, I thought of my Daddy.  He was a hard working man and very reserved and I think shy.  In my early days, most fathers were somewhat that way.  Today they are encouraged to be a big part of their children's lives.  Not to say that their are exceptions.  I remember my Daddy reading the Sunday comics to me.  It was special.  I just submitted an essay to the VILLAGER about comics, or the "funnies" as we called them.  I wont bore you with it, but I enjoyed remembering the fun of the comics.  I still read them every day.  ------- Well a good start to the day.  Guess I will stay in out of the high heat today.

LUNCH WITH TWO FAVORITE MEN.

I sure enjoyed Bryan and Tommy today.  I got to see pictures of the canoe trip and hear all about it.  It was very interesting.  It is Tommy's birthday and he got messages from his sisters and Jan and Cary and Brody.  Jan wished him a happy 65th.  That can't be true.  I told him he could retire and he said he would not have anything to do--so off to work he goes.  Well, I will be glad when everybody gets home.  Jan is flying Friday I think and Tommy is meeting her in Birmingham and they will spend the weekend with Peggy and home on Monday.  Amy back on Thursday.  They have all stayed in touch so it has not been too bad.  Well off to TV and then to bed.

PRETTY GOOD DAY

A surprise visit from Tommy Hontzas  and Anthony Thomas.  They were people that Truman worked with.  They brought me up to date with people of the past.  They are so nice to keep up with me.  Of course Tommy and I still own property together that Truman bought a long time ago.  We really wish to sell it.  I enjoyed their visit.
They left in time for me to go to Choir.

I will be so glad to go to the Dr. next Monday to check my foot.  I don't have much hope for a cure just  now.  It seems to take a long time.  I can't see a lot of improvement yet and I have done every thing she told me to.  I am very weary of this heavy boot.  Hope something better can be offered.    I will go to dinner in a little while with my friends and we will enjoy it.   Tommy and Bryan are coming tomorrow for a visit and lunch.  It will have to be Tommy's birthday party I guess.  No cake and Ice cream but lunch and a visit.  I hope to hear about Bryan's trip down the river,

TALKED TO BRODY

Doesn't get much better than talking to my great grandson on important subjects.  Like play dough and what color you chose and what to make and how it smells good.  By the way we both agreed on that.  He told me that he loves me and there it ended.  Or did it just began?  Because I just got an e-mail from Jan and he told her that he liked talking to ME.  How wonderful that is.

I  just got back from Exercise Class.  I took a treat I baked for the first time in two months.  They made me feel good about the Lemon bread I baked.  I thought some of my past things were better.  I may be out of practice. Friend Betty took it down on her Scooter, so I would not have to carry it.  What fun we make of nothing.

Amy and her family are leaving Saturday for a mountain trip.  A change from the Beach Week.  Maybe we will get to that again next time.  I do hope so.  The tradition must go on.  Hope it will.

TRILLIUM

This morning I read a piece where Trillium was mentioned.  My mind raced back to Riverwood.  I don't go there as often as I used to, but I remember how much I loved the "natural" back yard by the Lake.  I looked for Trillium every Spring(a lovely and simple pop-up wild flower). as well as other wild ones,  violets, Johnny Jump Ups. and some wild ones I could not identify .  Being a city girl, I pegged this yard as my woods.  I loved it.  Truman built seats from cross-ties and a serving table around a big tree. (three) sets of steps down  to the lake., where the large pier with seats gave another view of the Lake. . He got good at that.  I remember the Coves and steps to the water for the boat and one to just watch from the shallow water the many water creatures.  Oh it was a beautiful sight.  I am glad for those memories.  We loved the Lake.  I am so happy to still live where I can see the St. Catherine's Lake each morning.  Though I don't walk the woods. I still remember now peaceful it was, even in the City.  We had many events around the Lake.  Celebrations and parties and just the two of us sitting and looking at the water and talking.

Time does not stand still.  I guess that is a good thing.  God still has plans for me and I struggle to know them sometime--but I have faith that it is true.  ----- Stop preaching, Dot and get on with the day. Sorry

THREE IN ONE

Hey, Amy took me to eye Doc yesterday.  He was so busy that we were delayed a while.  My visit went well.  I am still surprised how well I still see with so much wrong with my eyes.  I am truly blessed with a good Dr.  It got me to thinking about the  part I play in my good eyesight.  I do try to do as the Dr, says.  One eye drop is put in three times a day.  I have devised a method to remember.  I have a little green leather case that has a zipper on three sides.  Three eye drops. see where this is going? When I start the day, I open the case all the way.  Good morning!!  One drop and I zip up one side.  I can glance at it during the day to see where I stand.  Do the second drop and zip again.  At night, I do the last and third drop and zip  up for the night.  Good night!!  Next morning, sometime I have a feeling I may have forgotten  the last night drop.  I look to see if I am "all zipped"  and hopefully I am. So Good morning again.  So goes the day.    Just being silly again and lets you know I scraped the bottom to find a something to write about.  Maybe I could have just said nothing?  No way.
