THURSDAY RAIN

Much needed showers this morning, I have laundry to do, I love to run that washer and dryer when it is raining. Takes me back to days when I at least had a washer but no dryer. In those " good old days." no disposal diapers......That makes me glad for a dryer. I don't do children clothes any more but dirty clothes go on and on. Makes you thankful for the small things. I dryed diapers over the floor funnace and in the summer if I got real desprate I could go to the laundry mat. Now that was fun. I could not even drive till Linda was born. And we only had one car, which I got to use one day a week. Truman had a carpool. We did not know any better. Most people did this then. My how things have changed in my lifetime. Hooyray for progress. Some of it is very good. Excuse me, I need to go "hang out laundry" in the dryer.

Monday

Not much happened different today. Lot of red, white and blue. Big Memorial Day buffet. I cooked my own today and it was good. Choir practice, Church service but Dancing With The Stars is over till fall. At least I have plenty of good books to read. I heard a new story from a lady I had never talked to before. Too long to relate. But I have many more I need to hear. Everyone has one.So I walk the halls. Someone told me that I was always seen in the halls. Well!!!They had to be there too to see me. Does not bother me--I just smile and say "Yeah, I am a "Hall Walker" It could be worse--At least I stay out of trouble. Ha Ha

MEMORIAL DAY

I helped put up flags Saturday. I wish I knew how many. It looks beautiful. But it was hot outside and it nearly wiped me out. But I felt good doing it.

GOOD THINGS BETTER COMMITTEE

Doesn't sound like a real committee? Well believe me it is here at St. Catherines' Of course I am a member. We do a lot. Today we are putting finishing touches on the Memorial Day decorations. Flags everywhere. They stay up till after the 4th of July. Since I have not done this before. it will be an experience. I wlet you know later.

It is hot--I like to stay inside. Just out on the balcony a little. I have the most beautiful flowers this year. Amy and Ivy came yesterday and we had lunch in the Cyber. I gave Ivy pearls Truman and I bought together several years ago. We gave all the grandchildren (girls) pearls for graduation. Hope she does that soon. I think she will in her own way and time.

DUCK CASE CLOSED

Well call me dummy. Those two males were protecting their "sweetie" I saw five ducks have their way with her this morning while the two "defenders" tried to fight them off. I should have known what was at stake. So duck drama was just nature at its best. The last two standing are still protecting her. I think I will stop watching. After all I saw more than I wanted to see. Off to exercise class ans minding my own business.

Maybe I have figured it out. Two males came this morning--ignored my offering--went to a spot a little way out from the shrubry and called--out came a felame. Do you think she has a nest? If so it is a little late for new ducklings. It happens in real life that way. But I will keep watching and keep you posted.

MALLARDS

Well I do not know how to say this but I fed two ducks this morning--both males. What happened to mama? Did she get tired of her family? Did dad get tired of her fussing? What will happen to two males? Stay tuned to the opening drama right outside my own balcony. Do you also remember the book MAKE WAY FOR DUCKLINGS? Another favorite about this mama Mallard in Boston I think who led her family of ducklings--with the help of this special policeman--accross a busy street to a park with a pond for her babies to swim. I used to almost cry it was so sweet to me.

BLUEBERRIES FOR DOT

I had my usual bluberry pancakes in the Cyber Cafe this morning. Bobbie put the bluberries in the batter this time. Much better. Do you remember BLUBERRIES FOR SAL? I loved that book and read ir often to my grands. I thought they liked it but looking back(a perk for the old) I think they were just being good to me and let me read it often. I loved reading to my grandchildren. No news on the crazy Malard Family. Now I have a lot to worry about!! I have finished with Riverwood and safely invested and feel good about it. I had good advisors. Now I put our house and its memories,which are many, in my special memory bank and I will check them out whenever I want or need them.-----and I will.

THE DUCK FAMILY & TOUGH LOVE

Yesterday late afternoon. I heard them coming, I grab some bread and rushed to the balcony. I saw two coming-male and female. They stopped and talked a little and then I saw their son (I think) coming behind. Mom and dad took off and chased him to the water and gave him a good water lashing. They stayed in the lake and every time he came near them they chased him off.(sad, I thought) That went on for some time until, I guess it was too late to eat--so everyone went to bed without a late night snack, I am glad it was not me.

NOTHING MUCH HAPPENING

Beautiful day--I guess that is something happening. I feed three ducks that come below my balcony and call me. Two males and one female, I think they are mother, dad, and son (who is having a hard time leaving home) Maybe.-- He is a good looking fellow but I guess a little shy. But I bet mom and dad will be glad when he stops following them around and gets a life of his own. That's life sometime. I cooked for myself last night. Corn on cob, yellow squash, okra, tomato (pretty good ) and I also bought sweet potato and Alabama peaches, Sound like Gulf Shores? Peaches should be really good when we get there. Maybe some Silver Queen corn in memory of Truman.? I bet you are pretty bored with my tame life now--but I love it.

STATE PARK

Back and had a good time. It only rained at night so that works. It turned a little cool and that made those two beautiful fires so much fun. Parker and David and Mary Grace really know how to make a fire.David brought his new Madoline and that was fun. Of course the famous cooks out did themselves as usual. So back to another world and see what is is store for today. Life goes on.

GET AWAY

You know what? as much fun as I have here, I need to get away once in a while. What a chance!! We are off today, Friday, to our anual Mothrt's Day campout. You should see yhe jaws drop when we are all talking about our Mother's day celebrations, when I top them all with my plans to camp in a State Park cabin. I just love to shock people. Bet there is not another who can brag about that. You see==it is all about topping someones' story around here. No really people are nice and happy for anything good about everyone. It is really amazing. Comes with age and maturity. Guess what else--we are starting with a golf tounament. I planted the seed and it grew. Truman would be proud of me.
We will think of you could not be with us, there is still Gulf Shores!!!

YOU CAN"T GO BACK

When Truman and I would come home from any trip we would always declare that where we lived was the most beautiful place in the world--and it was. I was in the neighborhood yesterday to get my haircut at Brocks (I still go back) I drove by the house and brought back memories of Truman making tea for us every morning about 10:00 and us sitting in the blue chairs and looking out over our "estate" Know what? I smiled and thought I still look out over a lake and have a beautiful view of a flower garden on my balcony. I sort of went back but I will never drink from those Betty Boop cups with him again. Thank you Lord for the memories. I hope I never lose them.

MONDAY'S ARE THE BEST

Call me crazy but Monday's are the best for me. I just love Choir practice. We are preparing some great music to perform for several different groups. We call it "going on the road". Ha Ha. Hurry the tickets are going fast. Coffee group starts my day,(with some of my favorite people) then exercise class that I love. Methodist Church service in our beautiful Chapel. Then I had dinner in the Skylight dinning room with three other ladies. And the finale DANCING WITH THE STARS Read some in a good book. Then to bed. For me this was a good day. This morning I fed ducks bread from my balcony and had breakfast out there--it was before it got too warm. Now on to today and see what else I can find to do. I must deliver a birthday card. I make small tissue flowers and tape them to the cards --people like that and they do look pretty. Enough of me.

Did I tell you the total from the Closet sale? __$4,700,00--roughly. It was the most yet. It all goes to the Employee's Appreciation fund for Christmas. Other projects go to it too. We have such great people to serve us and I am glad for them. I just Had coffee in the Bubble at the end of the hall. I saw a man fishing. With two fly poles going-he finally gave up and moved where I could not see him--think I had anything to do with moving? I doubt if he could even see me way up here. We have fish they say--large mouth bass,bream but the,catfish have disappeared. We also have plenty of turtles and shad. cottonmouth moccasins. Not much you can do about the problems. Stay away from the snakes for sure. Also they have added 200 Florida bass.. Florida? My, My--why Florida? Jan is coming and bringing Tommy's mother for lunch and . I am looking forward to showing her the wonderful place I live.

I made a mess of the title on the last post. It should read: THIS-THAT-and the OTHER. By the way that is the name of a small town, mom and pop resturant in Morton, Ms. Where you can get the best turkey and dressing and chicken and dumplings you ever had. We used to go there when we camped with our GOOD SAM CLUB at ROOSEVELT LAKE. My, I seem to be Chatty Cathy today. {remember her?}

THIS-THAT-for 6 months. Don't and the OTHER

Whatever that means! It seams the days and nights run together and I have to look at the calender to see what day it is. Went to the Dr. yesterday. I go get blood sugar average checked. How that works I do not know. But thet can tell you an average for six months. Will have to wait for results. Got caught in rain but not as bad as the last time. I had dinner two nighs in a row in the Skylight Dinning room with friends. Sound fancy It is--good service and they mean to please. Fun to laugh and talk. It is what most of us do best. My balcony flowers are looking pretty and that maks me happy.. I will keep you posted. I am sure your life is more exciting than mine--but hey!! it is what I have and I am lucky to have so many blessings.

Monday

Same old Monday. Exercise, Choir rehearsel, Methodist Church service and cooked my own supper, watched DANCING WITH THE STARS and read a book till eleven and went to be. I guess a lot did happen after all. I have the most beautiful flowers from Sunday at Jan's. Yellow roses and sunflowers is blue vases--Amy again. Life is good!!!!!
