WHAT A SURPRISE!!!

While flossing my teeth a couple of days ago, I was shocked to the loud noise of a cap off a tooth went flying into the lav.  Never has that happened to me before.  I have  an appointment Tuesday for regular cleaning.  I called this morning and told my tale to the Dentist. They assured me that it would be O. K. to wait till Tuesday to come in.  Just be careful with chewing and drinking hot or cold.  It does not hurt but I am aware of it all the time.  Can't keep my tongue out of it.  They told me they would clean my teeth as usual and stick {with what?) my cap back on.  I hope it is as simple as it sounds.  So that is my story for today.

Halloween party tonight (well 4 o'clock) dress up and come have hot dogs on the Terrace.  Think I will watch from my balcony.

EVERYDAYNESS

I may have mentioned this word before.  I read it somewhere.  Actually it is not a word (according to my friend Mr. Webster), But I am going to use it anyway.  Every day, the sun comes up. every day, I eat breakfast, every day I talk to God, read my Bible and my devotional.  So begins my day, every day.  Now I am seeking my way just like every day.  Put it together and you have EVERYDAYNESS.  I like the sound of it.

RAINY MONDAY

I love  a rainy day especially when we wanted rain so much.  Glad I can stay in today.  The Big Bridge Tournament started today and nudged us out of Choir practice!!  Some people are so into bridge!!  Never understood that.  A lot of people who live here love  it.  Oh well, I have books to read. Have you read  CUTTING FOR STONE?  Oh my it is a page turner.  I have Dancing With the Stars tonight and back and forth with Big Bang.

My I have a life!!

BLUEBERRIES FOR DOT

Well since my blood sugar was a mere 98. I decided to mess with it .  I went to breakfast and had one (I) pancake with a scrambled egg, bacon and coffee.  I took blueberries to put on the one pancake.  We will see what happens.

Cloudy and promise of rain this weekend.  I hope not as much as Texas is having.  I really feel for those people.  I have put off going to Wal-Mart and just must go this morning.  I know Saturday is not the best day to go.  Since I am not always known for doing the best thing, I will brave it after I put laundry in the machine.

After I buy dinner tonight, I will have .53 left and this is the last day on my food card.  How about that for planning?  I guess I will give them the balance.  Big spender-that's me.

SUNRISES, PERKY HAIR CUT, & BUSINESS, & REINDEER

These things have filled my days.  First I have never seen such beautiful sunrises as this and yesterday morning.  You have to get up early to see them. but it is worth it.  I got the courage to go to the Beauty Shop here !  I am pleased with it and also half the cost, no spending my gas and so convenient.  Then Tommy and I went to see my man who manages my stocks and etc.  I feel good about the visit.  Thanks to Tommy and him.  Then I put the finishing touches on my little reindeer ornaments for Christmas.  Now to create a tag to put on them.  50 wacky looking little fellows, make me laugh every time I work on them.  So somebody gets a laugh and I hope I am not the only one.

So goes my time. I made pumpkin bread for the Coffee Club this morning and later I plan to go to Wal-Mart.  Busy?  Yeah, I like it that way.

SOUP"s ON

I've had an urge to make veggie soup for some time.  I decided that the time was right this morning.  Cool weather you know calls for homemade veggie soup.  It is now simmering in my slow cooker.  Just brimming with all kinds of veggies and a little cut up chicken and a piece of sirloin steak I had eaten half of and froze the rest.  My it is coming together.  Smells good and I will dive in tomorrow as I have a standing dinner with three ladies on Monday's in the dinning room.  Soup goes way back in my memory.  My mother made the best and always cornbread too.  I think most Mom's make it and I did too.  I remember when we had garage sales on Riverwood. We all contributed to the sale and have it at my house.  I made soup and sandwiches and put out bowls and everyone came at one time or the other and dipped right in.    Now, I still make it and freeze portions for later.  Nothing like homemade.  It always tasted a little different each time because there is no certain recipe  and you use what is left over in the freezer and add some fresh and canned to fill it out.  Come on by and I will put the bowls out.

I just had to laugh just now as I came through the halls to my apartment.  Two ladies were talking.  One said to the other--"Look at
me and tell me if I am "coming" or "going." She seemed serious.  I feel that way sometime.  How about you?

SATURDAY

So, Saturday is usually a good day.  You know-end of week and it's busy pace.  And Jan usually comes.  She did today and we had lunch and then hurried to the computer to go to the Library for me.  I had just finished a book about Ernest Hemingway.Well a novel really but based on the first part of his career and first wife.  We got caught up in his career and all the books he wrote.  It is amazing because he was a  very disturbed man.  Maybe that is what it takes to write like he did.  Anyway, we got me two new books to read on my Nook.  I really enjoy reading this way.  So I am set to go.  I am proud of Jan.  I just sit and watch as she navigates through the system and it is so neat to check out books and you don't even have to take them back.  It is automatic.  You think I am crazy but I come from another time when you had to go there and check out and take back.  Real progress  !!

P. S. That is the way to spell Hemingway and Ernest, though the spell check says otherwise.

COOL WEATHER

Weather man says not to get used to it.  Summer is having a hard time bowing out.  Cool mornings help to know Fall is coming.  I have not been to the State Fair in years.  I hear the crowds were smaller.  I wonder why?  People aren't spending as much I think.  It is expensive for some families to go and take the kids.  I remember it was the same for us.  We would stop at the top of the hill and eat Crystal's before we went into the Fair with our small ones.  Because it was cheaper.  Didn't hurt them a bit (I think.)  Who knows what hurts and what doesn't? They did not get to eat out much at all.!!. Raising a family is a gamble anyway.  You try and try and are never sure of the outcome.  We were lucky to raise three very good and responsible people.  But please don't ask me how. I do know that when they were small it was the happiest time of my life.  Not to say, that I haven't been happy with every stage of my life,  I have.

LUNCH BUNCH

I remember when this phrase "Lunch Bunch" was created.  I think I am right.  Kindergarten normally went till 12:00 noon.  Some kids would stay for lunch and the afternoon.  They were called the lunch bunch.  That is the way I first heard it.
So I had the lunch bunch yesterday.  Amy, Ivy, Tripp and me, on the terrace and it was a beautiful day.  We enjoyed it.  It was Tripp's first trip here and he was so surprised and pleased.  SCV is  so surprising to everyone who see it for the first time.

I am going to a Ladies' Coffee here this morning.  Called "Mugs & Coffee."  Bring your favorite mug with a scripture or favorite quote to share.  Also a guest speaker on "lost arts" refined".  Sound interesting?  I think it is French hand work of some kind.  Anyway==here I go again.

LUNCH BUNCH

I remember when this phrase, lunch bunch, was first heard by me.  I may have been when it was created.  It was when kindergarteners instead of going home after school which ended at 12:00, would stay through lunch time.

HISTORY CLUB

I was asked at exercise class who was that good looking man  I had with me yesterday?  Of course it was my son-in-law, Tommy.  I invite him to the History Club every month and we have lunch afterwards.  We both enjoy the club and lunch.  It always make me wish I had paid attention in school and maybe I would enjoy it more.  At the time of High School, for me, was "how can I just get through this?"  How sad.  I think teachers make a difference in how we learn.  Most just want to get through it too.  I am not defending myself, because I know I could have done better.

Amy is coming for lunch   Yeah!!  Lucked out again.

LITTLE SLOW

You know, I forget the miles I have on me.  Last week I had three Dr. appointments.  With all the other usual stuff I do, I guess it caught up with me and I needed a "day of rest."  How fitting that I chose Sunday for it.  Church here on Sunday leans heavy to Baptist.  The leader is a retired Baptist minister.  They study The  Explorer. a Baptist publication.  I really enjoyed the way he took each verse and explained it.  I then had lunch in the dinning room.  Everyone was dressed like I used to on Sunday.  You know--your Sunday clothes.  A thing of the past in this generation.  (which is o. k. with me).  But Sunday has a special feel with your Sunday best on.  Anyway. I took a nap and then a walk.  Did a few lazy chores and read a new book.  Well I started it.  A PARIS WIFE is the title.  Set after and before World War 1.  Pretty good so far.

I will try to slow up, that is if I can go any slower, and see if I can smell the roses a while.

PAY the PREACHER!!

Most of my readers are not old enough for "old  sayings".  Paying the preacher used to be said when we needed rain.  I guess somebody has not paid the preacher in a while, because we just can't get much rain.  It is 8 o'clock and a dark cloud just came real close but no rain.  Hope it does not rain on the Fair.  I can not remember the last time I went to the Fair.  I never was that much of a fan anyway.

Hope to see Jan today as it is Saturday........I looked up Pin-in-Blanket.  Remember those?  I am thinking of making them for my Coffee club.  I am sure they would be excited.  Must be careful about the excitement,     Just kidding.    My computer has an answer for most anything.

WAL-MART today

I would say for and old gal of 88, I really do stay on the go.  Wal-Mart is calling.  They miss me.  Oh good!!  Being silly.  I kind of like to go there.  It is so big and I get a little exercise which is good.  I have been so busy lately and I must say it is about to catch up with me.  On the other hand, I am afraid to stop for fear I wont start up again.  So here I am,  just taking it one day at a time. Can we ask for more?  No, I think not.

I plan to get started on finishing my Christmas "happies."  They are turning out real cute.  They make me "happy."  Attach the hanger loop and make a small tag to say Merry Christmas.  Not too soon, as it will be here before we know it.  Halloween first.  I like my door and hall table display.  Next month, Thanksgiving.  I have an idea for that too.  I just took coffee from the Cyber breakfast I just enjoyed, and went to the Bubble to drink it.  I saw a man fishing.  The Lake was calm and he was having no luck, but he seemed to be enjoying it.  All the ducks came swimming up stream, like an Army going to war.  Or maybe just making their way to the other Lake.  I can only imagine--and I do.  I know people are tired of my lake poems, but I see something new every time I watch.   Enough of this chatter--on to WalMart.

MONTH OF DOCTORS

Yes I am keeping them in cars and trips this month.  First I went to my eye Doctor, then next day the ear Dr., today regular Podiatric maintenance.  Oh yes I got a flu shot here and next week my dentist will be glad to see me. I am glad I have all this attention, but all in one month?  What was I thinking?  At least I will have clean teeth and ears and trimmed toenails( which I can't manage anymore.)  And protection against flu.  Just call me "ready to go." I sure am high  maintenance."

Where was the sun hiding when we went camping?  Can you believe this sunny weather?  Oh well, I got to enjoy a fireplace again.  That is one thing I miss about having a house.  But just look at all the perks I traded for a house.  I will always have it in memory.

BREAKFAST WITH BRODY (and others)

Wow! What a weekend we had.  Twelve of us almost froze.  The clouds would not part and the wind blew off the lake to make it almost impossible to sit outside.  We sat on the screened porch and covered our summer bodies with whatever we could find.  But it was so much fun and a beautiful weekend.  Oh the food was wonderful.  We celebrated Jan and David's birthday.  Since it was David's big 30th, Jan and Cary spared nothing.  He was well celebrated every day.  We pretty much stick to the usual foods and then more. Steak, baked tuna, hamburgers Wonderful red beans and rice made by Paul. pancakes on Sunday(chef Tommy) and so much more.  Grilled veggies get Amy's special touch.  Sounds like all we did was eat.  While that is a big part of it, the centerpiece is family.  I think being force to stay inside and around a fire in the fireplace  (courtesy of Tommy), was a blessing.  We enjoyed each other .  I know I enjoyed watching each member and listening to them talk. It was so good to me.

I hope we will continue to be close and respectful of each other.  It is the only way to be.  What joy we receive when we love each other.

DONE AND DONE

Yes.  I kind of slept in this morning since I reran the play half of the night and kept waking up.  As I remember, I have done this with the other plays.  Just can't put it to bed.  You all may think this is silly.  But believe me this was a BIG thing to me.  Thanks for all the support and understanding.  I just hope I did not embarrass you too much.

Now on to camping.  I think the weather will be to our liking.  A touch of Fall.  I am excited to be going back to Roosevelt again.  Truman and I spent many great camping trips there .  With family as well as Good Sam campers. Most of our grandchildren were small then.  It is a good family campground.  But I have many good memories also of Askew's Landing near Edwards.  How about you?
