DELIGHTFUL GUEST OR CREAM IN YOUR COFFEE?

Mary Grace and Amy had lunch with me yesterday.  Both trying to loose weight. it was interesting how they planned their lunch.  Going half's and ordering fruit and whole wheat and you know the rest.  I have been trying to eat that way for  years and it still is hard.  But we had lively conversation and that is what we dwelled  on.  M. G. and Ryan are gathering supplies and information on raising chickens to have their own eggs!!!  Oh to be young and have the time and desire to try new things.  I wish them luck.  Maybe they will let me name them.  They will really be pets.  I bet Truman would love this.    Amy got a kick out of (I am sure)  a friend who saves the little cream cups with the cream in them and she brought me a sack of them.  She said put it on your cereal and in your coffee.  O. K.  I will and thank you very much.  What a friend  and I have a whole bunch of friends.  I try to give back but sometime I have trouble topping some of my gifts.    THANKS BE TO GOD  for my friends!!

THURSDAY BREAKFAST

My sugar was under control, so I decided to put it out of control and have pancakes for breakfast.  I will drink water and do a 30 minute walk in a while.  They really weren't worth it.  The cook was distracted I think because she almost burned them on one side.  They did not rise well either.  Oh well, I will try again later.  The company was good.  Earlene and husband Darrel are such nice people.  This other guy who talks so much was there too.  But he was pretty tame this morning.  He usually has an subject he needs to talk about.  He is a great historian of a lot of different wars and times.  I  have not met his wife(they live in one of the village houses.}  Anyway, he is into WW11 right now .  I told him I had extra copies of Truman's book and I would give him one.  Which is what Truman would do.  Amy just called and is coming to lunch.  Guess I had better get on with my day.

BREAKFAST

I thought I would do something different this morning, so I went down to eat breakfast in the Cyber Cafe.  Would you believe I was the only one there to eat the whole time?  I just wondered if I  missed a message.  Well as I have said, my company is good so I enjoyed myself.  I came back and did a load of laundry.  I have a load  about once a week.  I am going to coffee with Sister  "D".  Yes she is still active but not completely in charge.  She is bring Shelly Jones from St. Dominic's to talk on diabetes.  Since that should be of interest to me--I will go.  Sometime I think I know nothing about this stuff.  It is so different foe each person.  I an constantly fighting it.  Still don't understand much about it.  Oh well, maybe I will learn something new.

WIERD DAY

I don't know why it seemed weird.  Just did not all mesh and get a flow to it.  Maybe it is the antibiotic I am taking.  It is affecting my blood sugar and no energy .  I went to Walmart this afternoon after lunch and thought I would not make it back. I put things away and fell in the chair and could not move for a long time.  Even though I thought I had good lunch, my blood sugar had taken a nose dive.  Can't understand this thing.  I try but can't seem to get it even for long. I had some very good shrimp and corn chowder for supper along with a slice of whole wheat bread buttered and a small banana with peanut butter.  That should bring it up and I hope not too high.

Life is interesting.

MISS ME??

Been under the weather a couple of days.  Am up and running but not too fast.  Thanks to Amy, who took care of me along with many other duties of the day.  What would I do without her?  You know what, sometime it is good to be knocked down by illness.  It really can give you time to reflect.  But don't keep me down too long, please.  I just went down to the CafĂ© and bought two double scoops of sugar-free vanilla ice cream and two cokes.  I came back and made a coke float.  Now I did not use all of the ice cream and coke.  Just saying.  It was good. Maybe I will go to exercise class tomorrow.  We will see.  Maybe I will make a black cow tomorrow.  Chocolate milk(sugar free chocolate syrup) and fat free milk and sugar free ice cream.  It will be good, I promise., even though I sounds flat.

SATURDAY

Jan came and we had a good visit and lunch.  The taco salad was the best we have had.  Everyone was ordering it. I am not sure they knew it would be good  Oh well nothing is secrete around here.  We ate with Lettie  L. and was good.  Nothing much else of interest happened.  I did take my vintage valentines down from my entrance and put up Mardi Gras stuff.  It looks pretty.  Then comes St Patrick's day then Easter.  Slow up and  take it easy.  Must go and get ready for Church.

VALENTINE DAY

Two parties nearly wore me out.  The one with Irene at Siena was sweet .  It was fun seeing those there laugh and sing.  They did a great job with decorations and the food.  Irene seemed to enjoy it and I am glad I could go.----My party was a little different.  Lots of beautiful decorations, food was nice. music was great.  Many couples danced.  One lady without a partner danced.  They say she always does that.  Very brave.  Tables of eight were decorated so pretty with a valentine (made by the art class) for each person.  Party was from 6-8o'clock.  I had enough by 7.  I guess I got tired of smiling and came home.  Enough already.  I never was much of a party girl .  Still haven't changed.  Now if I had my partner, I might have been able to stay longer.  Maybe not,

P. S. to HAIR CUT

I forgot to say HAPPY VALENTINE DAY.  Hope your sweetie gives you a valentine.  I missed mine at breakfast this morning.  It was something we always did and I was always amazed and proud of Truman for picking such perfect ones for me.  We would always keep them secrete and slip into our seats at breakfast.  I saved many of them.  Tonight I will dig them out and reread them as always and cry a little.  Cry for joy when I remember how lucky to have such love and respect for so long.   MOM

DARK SHORT HAIR

YEH!!  I feel better with this new hair cut.  I told Willowdean  (my hair cut lady) to cut it shorter but not a Beach cut. She got it right.  Now I am short, with color, and good to go.  I just am enjoying the sunshine and the lifted grey skies.  That helps too.  The clouds are so white and pretty.  I just saw a plane break through and leave a beautiful stream of white behind.  I bet that pilot just loves doing that.

Big Valentine party today.  I am going to Irene's party at 2:00 and then to mine at 4:00.  We are having a chocolate fountain with strawberries!!!.  I don't know what else but I will check in with you later.  That is if you can bare OLD people stuff.  It must seem mighty tame to my readers.  But you deal with what you have.  I think this place is wonderful  I am glad to be here.

GOOD REPORT

Thanks be to God.  My eyes are still holding on.  Not much change.  My sweet little (young) Dr. came in lugging  my file as if he could hardly carry it,  It is about the biggest one they have.  I have been living with this a long time.  Many treatments and surgeries and tense moments.  But for some reason I can still see even tho I have lost vision.  Amazing.  Thank you Lord.  Truman used to tell the story he read,  No I believe it was a Preacher story.  Anyway it stuck with him.  I can't tell it like he did but this man held his life in the form of a big ball of string.  The Lord told him every time he wanted to move in his life to pull off a little string.  Of course he was anxious to see  the future and pulled it often.  All of a sudden he was to the end.  Surprise, I am not that anxious but I think of that when I want to see the future.  So I try to slow down and enjoy "today".  It is hard sometime , we all want to know what is coming.  Don't hurry, what will be    will be.  Another sermon.  Sorry.

Enjoy your day

MONDAY WAS MONDAY

We will  not list those activities as they are the same. just busy.  Well something different did happen.  Two of Truman's co workers came by to visit.  I got caught up on some old friends at the Bank.  Some are still going strong--some not, which is sad.  I did appreciate them coming.

So far this morning, I had breakfast with same group.  I really like breakfast food so it is worth putting on your face and going down early.  Turns out I met several in the hall that really got me started and I am glad for that.  You know this is an amazing place to live.  I also went to walk and am getting ready for Amy to pick me up (God bless her) to go to see Dr. Newman.  My eye doctor.  Wish me luck.  I am about the luckiest one  I know of with my eyesight.  Thank you Lord for my eyesight.  May I keep it till ------

Sunday

Church was good today.  I really enjoyed the children Church time.  Lunch at Sal and Phil's with Paul, Sophie, Ryan. M. G., and Amy.
Getting to be regulars there.  Ryan 'ordered a huge bowl of boiled shrimp for us to share while we waited on our orders.  I could have made my meal on it.  It was better than being at Gulf Shores  (almost).  They really do have fresh and good seafood.  The company was what made it complete.

FRIDAY ? SATURDAY

I CAN'T remember what I did Friday so we will go on the Saturday while I can still remember.  Jan came and we went to eat at The Mediterranean Grill.  Simply since I had never been there.  Not as good as  I expected but we enjoyed the owner being very friendly.  We were the first customers of the day and he was talking a little too much.  Since I was getting very low on makeup and Clinique was having a bonus gift on, it was the time to buy.  Jan said she did not want me going to the Mall by myself.  I think it is wise to be causes  They  changed the lipstick's name to CHUBBY STICK INTENSE MOISTURIZING LIP COLOUR BALM.  !!!! "  A soft cushion of colour that 's not quite opaque--just the happy medium.  Super nourishing balm is loaded with do-gooders like mango and shea  butters.  Discover  8 vibrant-looking shades, each with a subtle sheen." Wow!!  I can't wait to try it.  We went on to my favorite place to shop.  DILLARD'S.  As usual, they had a good sale on.  My kind of shopping.  Jan was patient with me while I tried on several things.  I bought two tops that I really like.  The lady who works there has been there 25 years and her co-worker 12.  They are so sweet and helpful.  We then came hope and I was very tired.  But Happy.  Nothing like shopping to do that to a woman.

On to Sunday

GOOD DAY

Amy came by on her way home from her latest "job".  She has a lot going now.  She came to share her excitement of a job well done.  See her blog.  Meeting this morning and then lunch with some of the "old girls".  I am writing  this Friday morning.  I was enjoying the beautiful sky at breakfast.  Pink clouds in a dull blue sky as the sun rose.  What a sight.  I thought it could not get any better when across the sky flying in a V formation --Canada geese!!  Going north, I guess they think it is perfect for them.  And then as I just sat down to the computer, Another wave of them came by.  It was an  awesome sight.  So many groups.  I thought if they touch down they will fill the Lake, but they flew on as they were constantly changing their formation.  Almost  as if they did not know who was leading.  I know better than that.  But they put on a show.  I am glad I saw it.    "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."  When Cecil was president of our Sunday school class he would always begin with this scripture.  Always put you in the right mood.  I miss him.

Wednesday (hump day already?"

It sure does seem to go fast ---t   the days.   With plenty to do, that is the way to go.  If you wont tell. I rushed it too fast and went to a meeting a week early.  I hope they wont haul me off.  I am still very independent!!  Gosh we may see snow flurries today.  Exciting?  Not to Ashley and Bryan.  They have had enough already.  I just had breakfast (Thursday)  with my usual people.  Sure do like Earlene and Darrel.  They know everything that is happening.  I am going to a resident's meeting this morning with our CEO   Mary Margret Judy.  Once a month she brings us up to date and explains questions some ask.  I feel real  embarrassed at some of them.  Like they just want to harass her.ME I have very little the complain about.  Maybe I will speak up and say just that.  ----No I better not.  The rest of this day I will read, write and take a walk.

JUST RIGHT

Tuesday is a "just right" day.  No real responsibilities.  Just float down the hall. accepting belated birthday wishes and questions about how good it really was.  I decided that birthdays are a really big thing beyond the 80's.  Everyone seems to be excited to get them.  That includes me.  I am reluctant to take the 43+ cards and put them away.  One more day to enjoy the greetings.  We had a program on preserving your legacy Tuesday.  Someone helps you to remember your past memories for your children.  I was reminded of how Truman was so for that.  His part was big in the publishing of the big Ellis book.  It was more than a book of records.  It holds so much of the stories of his family and you are a part of it.  Also ENGEBI  is like him talking to you as you read it.  And of course TRU-BE-DO-BE-DO  is his story.  I am glad I urged him to do that.  Of course in a small way my MEMORIES OF LITTLE DOT is mine.  Truman wanted to write about the years between his books but I guess I did not stand behind him on that one.  Wish I had.  Any way the program was encouraging to many there who want to preserve their past for their children and beyond.  Everyone has a story.  It may not seem very important to them, but hopefully to their kids.

I had a GREAT BLT at lunch

MUNDANE MONDAY

Well, I like to  look  at Monday's as my "work" day.  Most of the activities( that are  regular) happen on Monday's.  I even tacked on a Villager meeting yesterday.  That happens once a month, where we discuss the new issue and what will be in the next one.  Mary Anne gives out our duties for the next issue.  I had two interviews in the Feb. issue--no poems or essays.  Next month I will have an interview and I think a poem and an essay.  We have several different types of people working on the issue.  I am proud to be a part of it.  Everyone just loves THE VILLAGER.  I had planned to go to  Wal-Mart today, but think I can wait till tomorrow when the weather looks better.  Today we are expecting thunder storms and much rain.  Maybe we will and maybe we wont.  The weather is hard to predict I guess.  Any way, think I will take a rain day and stay in.

POOR PEYTON!!!!

I watched the game from my blue chair and had humus and crackers with diet coke.  I felt so bad for Peyton.  He really did himself proud by the comments he made later.  Such a disappointment  for the whole team.  Well he really has nothing to be sorry for,  He has had a great career.  Might come to an end soon, we will see.

Church was good with the lunch after.  "Souperbowl" is a tradition at Broadmeadow.  Have been doing it for a while.  I remember decorating tables and as usual I  overdid it.  Complete with a football field and goals and footballs.  I do wish I had taken pictures in those heydays.  I really enjoyed making many themed events.  All "in the bank of memories".  Hey I am lucky I can still remember them.  At least I think  remember.  Who really knows?

GOOD WRAPUP

To end the wonderful Birthday I just had, we ended up on a high note.  M. G. and Ryan are the perfect host.  It was good to blend families and get to know each other.  Always good over food, which was the best.  I enjoyed the party very much.  Now when is the next party?  I'll be there.

MORE BIRTHDAY

I had a wonderful birthday.  My girls, Jan, Amy, took me for a "girls" lunch.  M. G. joined us too.  SAL AND PHIL"S IS A WONDERFUL PLACE FOR FRESH SEAFOOD.    I had the best oysters, they were broiled and seasoned so nice.  Plumb and juicy, and I ate a dozen!!!!.  Grilled squash was the best.  When the co-owner heard it was my birthday (I told everybody that I saw yesterday)  he brought us apple and blackberry cobbler.  Now that really made me swoon.  I asked him if he would sing for me and said only if he could take his shirt off.  I said Allright!!!!  Of course he ran.  I don't mean to brag but I have received 40 Birthday cards from here.  I guess  I am not the only person here that gets that attention for this is a friendly place.  We all like attention too.

Well another celebration is on tap for today.  MG and Ryan get the trophy for hosting these big  events.  Paul and Sophie do an excellent job too.  Learned from the pros I guess.  I am glad they love their family.  Paul, Ryan and this old girl all have January birthdays.  Three for one.  Good way to start the year.  I will tell you who can't be here all about it later..
