JACK POT !!!!!

I have not been playing the slots, I just mean I hit the jack pot with guest today.  Jan, Tommy, Cary. David and of course the " running machine" Brody.  Just kidding, he is almost running.  Just walking fast now.  It was fun to have them all at lunch and then a visit in my apartment.  Brody loved the fountain in the rose garden.  Could  not figure how to catch those streams of water.  He would go from one to the next one trying to catch the water.  I had a good time too.  I am glad to see him up close.  The other "greats" live to0 far to visit often but I do love to see pictures and hear stories about them too.

Mississippi State is playing Southern Miss tonight.  It is on T. V.  Who do I root for?  The winner of course.  With family on both sides it is best to play it that way. It is almost half time with Mississippi State leading 28--0.

GOOD STUFF

Don't you just love it when "something" goes well?  Well yesterday our Summer Concert went so good.  Songs from South Pacific and many other fun and sacred and songs from SHREK.  It was a pleasure for others to enjoy what we in the Choir love doing.  Now today we  had a dress rehearsal for the play that will be next Tuesday and Wednesday (yes two performances).  We are in such demand!!  No really it was fun to practice in costume and see how we all look.  Some stumbled on lines (me included). I guess it was too real.  But we will be ready when the time comes.  And if we flub up --it will be funny anyway.  I hope.  We will rest it this weekend and hope for the best.

Monday & Tuesday (so far)

Monday was busy.  Practice for Our summer concert and also for the play next month has kept us busy.  Both are going to be great. (according to me).  I think it is great to be a part of it.  Another event.  Ruby moved here yesterday.  She had to come into Siena, the skilled nursing where Irene  is and Truman was.  Unhappy and wants  to go home to her house.  Of course she can't.  Never will be able to, as she is very sick.  I took flowers to her and tried to help her accept.  It is going to be rough but maybe she will adjust soon.  I hope so.,

Ham  and biscuit and scrambled egg and coffee.  Sound good?  Plus my good friends the Atkins and I have a good start.  Laundry in the washer and my hair shampooed and it is just 9 o'clock.  How is that?  Good for me.  I am my own cheer leader.  Well somebody has to be.  So be it!

LOT GOING ON

As I opened the drapes this morning it looked kind of sad.  You see, they have finally gotten to my wing of the building where they will wash down, scrape, and paint.  They asked us to remove anything that could be damaged by the work from the balcony.  Big job for me since I had a ton of stuff, plus that miniature veggie garden winding down.  I just chucked it all and tried to save a few fading flowers  to the bubble. Of course I could not have done it without help.  Jan got caught  since she usually comes  to visit on Saturday anyway.  The big machine that they wash with sits waiting below my balcony.  They are suppose to start Monday..   I am glad.  The spider webs and wasp are real bad this time of the year and it could all use paint too.  Jan put plastic in the extra shower and we hid big flower pots ==to save the soil.  Next year--I will be more conservative (maybe).. I do love the flowers and the veggies were fun.

Many  other big changes and plans.  Wedding doings and birthdays and maybe we will work in a Fall camping trip, Brody needs to go. So lets get going.  Lots to think about and plan.

NOT MUCH TO SAY

I was taught that if you have something to say--say it.  Well I guess that works both ways.  I have nothing to say--so I will not just chatter.  Not to be outdone, I will send you a poem I just had " published,"

  • NAPS
  • By Dot Ellis
Here I come rushing down the Hall.
I'm running late at half past noon.
Please don't think me rude at all.
Must get there very soon.

I arrive there in anticipation.
I certainly need no map.
As I succumb to temptation,
And fall in bed for a lovely NAP.

P. S. to yesterday

Yes, Amy and Lucy W. did come yesterday afternoon.  I had finished Play practice.  It did not go too good.  My voice is just getting too weak..  I thought of dropping out when I had trouble talking as forceful as Shirley wanted me to.  But I decided I was not the only one and after almost all  of us are not professional and no one expects us to be.  And it is volunteer !!!!Plus I am having fun.  I think I will stay and try harder.   Any way I really enjoyed my visit with Lucy and Amy.  Lucy is an amazing young lady and I predict she will go far and achieve her goal.  Plus with her sense of humor --she will do great.  I gave her as a going away present ,  a hammer with screw drivers in the handle and a tape measure all painted with girlie flowers.  I think it might come in handy as she does small things on her own.  She may get good at it and make a little spending money on the side doing small "fix it" jobs.   No erase that from your mind.

I had a crazy supper {on my own)  Shrimp gumbo, with about four tiny shrimp.  Not very satisfying .  I then craved something sweet.  Unusual for me.  I had six quarter size whole wheat pancakes with sugar-free syrup.  Then I was satisfied!!!

ALWAYS SOMETHING GOING ON

What a big weekend.  When Linda and Joseph come we always have endless "parties".  After arriving Friday about 4 we started with dinner in the dinning room.  Next day Joseph traveled on to his Wood Turning demo in Copiah County College south of here and spent the day there.  Jan and Amy came over for lunch in the Cyber .  Linda left with them to go to a new olive oil store that just opened and then she went to Jan's to prepare food for dinner.  Joseph and Linda and I went to Jan's for dinner of the birthdays.  Cary and Ed's and we talked to Bryan by Cype (sp) ?  Anyway we could see and talk and he could do the same.  Amazing.  Ashley was set for his party there.  She filled the room with pictures of Bryan at all age stages.  It was great.  We cried and so did Bryan as we all sang Happy Birthday to him,  Just like when he was small.  Remember that story?  Of course you do.  One of our old tales.  We were not through, we had lunch at Mg's and Ryan's  You know her chickens are laying eggs so we had Quiche of three kinds.  We do love a party.  Missed the ones not present.  Always do.  Big weekend --must settle down and get back to normal, whatever that is.  Thanks to the Lord for my wonderful family.  My prayer is for them to always love each other.  I know they will.

PLAY PRACTICE

Practice went O.K.  I just wish we had a new play.  This is the repeat of the first one I was in and I wonder how those Broadway players do it.  Boy that is something to compare.  BROADWAY--PUNCHLINE THEATER!!!!  That is the name we call ourselves.

I just had breakfast with one lady and three guys.  A little out of balance?  Just old "cronies".  What else is new?  As if it mattered.  Only one man for me--Truman the great.  Never has there been any thoughts of any one but him.

Well I must get up and get on the horse and do a little mundane shopping at Wal-Mart and such. As I told Amy once, I may need a stool to get back on the horse--So Be It  !!!

THE MALL

Amy took me to the Mall today.  I needed a few things, since I don't go as often as I used to.  She was very patient with me as I struggled to hurry.  Can't hurry anymore.  Lunch was good at the Steak--something--.  Can't remember what it is called.  Did not run my sugar up at all.  I was surprised.  Maybe all  that walking helped.

Now I have new underwear and two beautiful new tops  New makeup too.  All needed.  I just fell in bed when I got home.  I was very tired.  After rest I did my laundry and had supper and now I feel O. K. I know my many readers just really did not want to hear all this but hey, this is what I do.  Tomorrow we really get  serious with Play practice so I need to get some rest tonight.

QUOTES FROM RESIDENTS

As I was passing out my beautiful Morning Glory muffins at Coffee before exercise class, one cute and petite lady said, "No thank you, all I have left is my figure and I plan to keep it."  That set us to laughing right away.  Good way to start the morning.  Then as we were leaving after the class I was walking with two other ladies.  We met  another lady and she said, "Hello girls."  I said. "Thank you for calling us girls."  She replied, "We are lucky to still be so young, yet old."  Now what a way to look at it.  Most of us are working to stay young at heart as we grow older.  That is one thing I like about St. Catherine's.  We love to stay young.

I just took a muffin to a neighbor who gave me the recipe for the muffins.  Late yesterday after dark. we had a thunder storm.  It took out the electricity for most of the buildings.  We  have back up generators and they took over.  Still with such weak power it was weird with low power.  Another thing I like about this place I call home, is I do not have to worry about getting anything fixed.  Another perk.

I am going to warm up an egg plant casserole, peas, and warm cornbread, and some tomato and cucumber salad.  My sweet daughter Amy, the creative cook, brought me the peas and egg plant and she also brought plums.  Some more perks.  How can I be anything but thankful.  I am blessed.

HAM FOR BREAKFAST !!!!

A little "piggy" went to market and brought back HAM to the Cyber CafĂ© this morning.  We have only been having sausage and bacon.  I invited my neighbor Mary T. to have breakfast with me this morning.  We had ham, eggs, and toasted biscuit and of course coffee.  It was so good and full of what we should not eat.  Maybe because it was forbidden, it was so good.

Will be a long day without Jan's visit.  Tommy and Jan are going to Memphis for a good friend's child's wedding.  So I will miss her today.  What will I do with all this time?  I will think about it and give you a report later.

ORDINARY DAY

So why should I blog?  I am under the (misguided) assumption that everyone waits each day to see WWDD.  Is that so?  What a big responsibility!!  Well if you are reading today--not much of interest to tell.  Exercise, BLT for lunch and the most wonderful peach.  I got back from exercise to find a little brown bag with two beautiful peaches/  I thought I was right in who left them for me and I was-- when I listened to a phone message.  Thanks so much Jan.  (Cary take note and remember to be as good a daughter as you mother is to me)  I had a peach for lunch It was so good.  Peaches have been so good this year..  I did finish a poem for the VILLAGER.
Barbara is here to clean  my apartment  Lucky me!!  I must go now.

LUNCH BUNCH

Lunch with Jan, Cary, Brody, Amy, and M. G. for Cary's birthday was so much fun.  Sophie could not make it and Ivy was at work too.  Brody does enjoy lunch with the "girls."  He feasted on blueberries and Cherrios and bites from mom and Jan.  He knows how to get laughs from everyone.  A real comedian already.  So cute!!!We split and went our separate ways.  But so nice to get together. For me it was a nap.  Can't seem to do without it.  I really do have some things to do but don't want to do them.  O well as Scarlet said "I will worry about that tomorrow."  We all know where she ended up.  Rhett did not seem to care what happened to her. Maybe I had better do a little more worrying.  Nah!!  Most of what I do can wait till tomorrow.

SO FAR SO GOOD

Exercise class always makes for a good start.  Get those joints working and the heart pumping.  Yes!!And as always it is good to visit and drink coffee before with my favorite group.  We don't have a name--just coffee group.  Wednesday Regions Bank (my bank) brings donuts for us.  Very popular with many. even though they don't exercise.  That's O. K., we welcome all.  I talked to a resident who is from Denmark.  So cute and sweet.  I told her I was looking at my trip albums and thought of her when I saw the statue of The Little Mermaid in the edge of the harbor.  She told me that some one vandalized it recently and chopped off her head.  She laughed that is was not the first time that has happened.  I said did they glue it back and she laughed that a had a mold and make new ones.  Oh well I guess the world is the same everywhere.  Sad thing to do, I thought.  Think I am ready for lunch and nap and then to work on the assignment for the VILLAGER,

FIRST OF A KIND

As old as I am, I still have first.  Since I am Diabetic, and am getting too old to bend enough and see well enough, to trim my toenails, My Dr. sent me to a Podiatric Dr.  It went well and my toes look and feel so good.  I have all the info  to get diabetic shoes.  I am beginning to have a little trouble there too.  I can still sail down the hall at a speed faster than some and I don't have to use a cane or walker.  Thanks be to God.  I am blessed.  Can't wait to see what the shoes will look like.  I hear they can be quite stylish.  (I bet.)  My Dr. said open toed shoes were good to wear.  Good! Since I have a wardrobe of them.  What an afternoon.  I was pretty wiped out.

I have a slow day.  I am going to take advantage of it and not drum up any extra.  Shampoo, change bed linens, do laundry. write (new orders from The Villager) poem. essay. and two interviews,  Hey wait this sounds like a full day after all.  Lucky me.

WORDS TO LIVE BY

"Remember this, my dear brother! Everyone must be quick to listen, but slow to speak, and slow to become angry."  "Man's anger does not achieve God"s righteous purpose."  James 1: 19-20. And my own words to live by-- "-just stay quiet and wait." You may think that choice is wimpy-but it takes a lot of courage sometimes.  Oh my!  I am preaching again.  Isn't that what Grandmothers do?

EASY TRAVEL

I have been reading a mystery book.  It takes place with a tour group.  They are in Egypt.  You know that trip for us was one Truman always wanted to take and he was not disappointed.  He loved it.  The book painted such a real picture of the places we visited..  I looked up my album of our pictures Truman took and I took some too Truman lugged that big old camera all over Europe and everywhere else we went..  I got a few cats in my pictures.  I have pictures of cats from all over the world..  Well at least where we traveled over the years,  So when Jan was here we dug in the "cage" and found a whole carton of albums.  I even found my High School album I thought I had lost. So you know I have been traveling through those pictures all afternoon.  We looked so young and "slim"!! How happy I am that we traveled so much.  I am sure my traveling days are over and that does not make me sad to say that because we went to almost all the places we dreamed about.  I am satisfied!!!!!  Thank you sweet Jan for lifting all those boxes and I hope you did not strain anything.

P. S.   I have traveled on every mode you could name.  Even a camel!!!

BACK AGAIN

You know I am too much of a ham and needy of attention--so I am back.  You know the internet is a powerful thing.  I have grown to hate it and love it at the same time.  Speaking of being a "ham."  I am in the up coming play.  What fun to get on the stage and act like someone else!!  Also to brag about the new VILLAGER.  I have an essay and a poem and an interview.  Oh dear what would they do without me?  To tell the truth they would accept (almost) any old dame's work as long as you spell it right.  No not really.  I think to be written and produced by resident's  it is a good publication.  I am proud to be a part of it.   Well enough!!.  Get off the stage now and go to exercise class.  After all I must keep "fit." I wonder what the topic for discussion will be this morning.  You never know.  I really love this coffee and exercise group.
