FROM DREAM TO BLOG

Don't you love sweet dreams?  I had one last night.  Thankful for not nightmares about the storm and other worries.  I dreamed I was at a garage sale.  My Church it seemed.  I found my pretty pink blouse that I wore at our wedding.!!  Just as plain as for real.  It was light pink and made of silk.  Padded shoulders (the style in 1946)  The suit I wore was sky blue.  I remember my Mother and I shopped for my wedding clothes.  I was very smart and had a savings account.  Mom and Dad could not really afford a lavish wedding.  O. K. with me, but I did buy my wedding outfit and a few other must have"s. My mother even made my "first" night nightgown and beautiful lace robe.  The gown was her hand work completely.  The robe was made from old lace.  I still have it, though in sad repair.  Did not store it well.  And I do still have the blouse.  But to see it in my dream was both surprising and very touching.  Wish I could have more dreams like that.  Thankfully I can remember the best ones.

P. S. Maybe today would be a good day to find the blouse and nighties in the storage cage.  Or should I just let good things rest in peace? BB.

STILL HERE

I did not lose and sleep over the storm.  Slept like a baby.  Trusting?  Or plain dumb.  But what could I do about the weather?  Nothing.  I just let my favorite weather team take care of that.  I do miss the Balcony this morning.  It is still raining and very wet.  Oh, no, I forgot to bring in the chair pads.  They are a soggy mess now.  I really need new ones.  But just like everything else, I haven't been able to shop for them.  I thought about my Daddy.  I think I have told this but maybe not.  He was very afraid of storms.  Grew up where they had a lot  and they had storm shelters built into the side of hills.  I remember seeing one behind the old house where he grew up.  I think that influenced his fear. also he was a very young man in WWI and served in France.  Mother said he suffered from nightmares about the war.  Never would talk about it. In those days they knew little about treatment for the terrible memories they suffered.  He would get up during night storms and get dressed and pace the floor, wait till they stopped.  I was young and did not understand.  I think how different parents handle events for kids now.

The tall pine trees before my Balcony are swaying.  Excuse me while I go get dressed.!!!!

CROW ON CROSS

I haven't seen a crow in a while.  I heard his unmistakable cry this morning.  There he was talking to the world on top of cross on the steeple.  He made the announcement over and over. I wonder if he was warning the bird world of the storm to come?  He finally wrapped it up and flew on his way.  The storm is coming and we do need to be aware.  Around here we are getting ready. They removed all outdoor furniture to the inside for now.  Giving all kinds of update.  They are prepared for whatever comes.  Thanks for that.  It sounds like a major event again.  Hunker down and pray for the best.

I had me a sausage biscuit (bought yesterday from Cyber Cafe)  and soft boiled egg and a cup of banana & stewed apples and coffee,  juice & pills.  I am set to go.  But I am going nowhere.  I have my books.  I have " resorted"  to the "Cowboy" books as I call them.  There are a few series of  them.  I can't take too many of those.  I don't believe real cowboys can be that romantic,  but it takes me away as most books do.

ANIMALS

TWO WALKING THEIR COCKERS INSPIRED ME TODAY.  I HAVE ALWAYS LIVED WITH A PET, INCLUDING TRUMAN, MY PARENTS ALLOWED US TO HAVE THEM. MAMA HAD A PARAKEET DURING HER RETIREMENT.  I WAS ALWAYS PARTIAL TO CATS. BUT WE HAD DOGS TOO AND RABBITS.  OUR CHILDREN HAD MANY KINDS TOO.  I REMEMBER HAVING LITTERS OF KITTENS FROM A MAMA CAT WHO HAD MANY LITTERS.   REMEMBER? FUN TO NAME THEM TOO. YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS BUT I NAMED HER BETTY FOR AN OLD GIRL FRIEND OF TRUMAN'S.HE THOUGHT THAT WAS FUNNY,SORT OF.  I THINK MAMA NAMED HER BIRD "BILLY BOY -SOMETHING.  SHE CLAIMED SHE TAUGHT HIM TO TALK. DON'T KNOW WHAT LANGUAGE HE SPOKE, BUT HE WAS SAYING SOMETHING. ANYWAY PETS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF LIFE.  TEACH US A LOT.  MOSTLEY HOW TO LOVE.  MISS MY BITSY THIS MORNING AS I LOOK TO HER PICTURE HERE ON MY DESK.

STORM - BREWING

While sitting on Balcony, I sometime wonder what will come to mind to write.  This morning, who remembers the GREAT A & P? My first get-away after becoming a stay-at-home Mom At first we only had one car.  I got to keep it on Fridays.  Off I would go with my cute little sweet baby --Amy.  She got to ride in the buggy and take in the sights. I remember in those days, a bag boy would take your cart of groceries to the car.  I think I gave him a dime.  Big tipper.  In this case the "bag boy" was this long time employee who was a kind and polite black man, who worked there for years.   He liked to push Amy out in the cart seat.  Would laugh and tease her.  I think she even remembers it.  Or we told her about it.  Later when she was in school and we had a second car, they all remember that I  brought candy from my grocery trip and put it at the end of their bed each Friday.  And do you remember the little 25 cent LITTLE GOLDEN BOOKS bought almost every Friday from the A & P?  I may have the sequence of events mixed, but so what else is new. Ahh Memories--How They Linger.  (another old song.)

MUST HURRY

I must hurry this morning.  I hate to hurry any more.  Maid is coming at 9 instead the usual 3 o'clock.  So you see, nothing of interest to write, yet.  Did see MISS I STILL LOOK GOOD IN SHORTS.  Yellow shorts, blue shirt and yellow cap to match.  My aren't we a fashion plate this morning.  Go girl, go.  I used to be there in the good old days gone by.

I'M LATE, I'M LATE, I'M LATE

So said the rabbit.  I slept overtime.  I was in the bed 10 hours!!  Please don't spread the word.  My birds were knocking at the door.  Hurried to break crackers and feed them.  I observed Miss Bobbieretta.  She was bobbing along with her tail still not there.  Also a littlie one I am worried about.  He looks so unkept with feathers ruffled.  He flies into the middle of crackers and sits while he eats. VERY SLOW,   Unconcerned with his surroundings.  Does he need therapy? I fixed breakfast for myself and finished quickly.  Trying to at least salvage a little time on Balcony before it got too hot.  Nothing fancy this morning, just get it done.  Turkey bacon, egg over light, orange, wheat toast and I am good to go.  But it got hot fast.  Coffee stays hot in the heat, so it takes longer to drink.  Oh, well, I will survive.  But I am a creature of habit, and when I get messed up, who knows what will happen?

76 already?

I have heard the sound of School starting.  LOCUST!!!  No mistake.  Nothing like them.  Always a marvel. I associate them with early Fall and the start of school. I have a few memories there.  They are fading fast.  So some may not be accurate. I remember going with classmates to sing on the radio.  I guess we were pretty good or just the average little kids.  Who knows what they were thinking.  I just know my friend Lois and I were super excited to go.  Downtown Jackson and ride on an elevator to the top of a building on Capitol street. Can't remember which one, if I even knew then  one from the other. But apparently there was once a radio  station there.  I remember being put at the front of the group,  Not because I could sing that good, but because I was the shortest one everywhere I went.  A "perk" sometime.  I think we sang something like AMERICA.  Because we did that one with such gusto.  Anyway one little girl was super thrilled. Can't take that away from me. I do remember thinking we were going to miss lunch at school.  Go figure.

GRAPE JUICE ??? OR WHAT

My juice this morning was grape flavored.  I thought of Communion Juice.  My first early times of taking communion were mixed.  I was taught about it's meaning but it was hard for a young child to understand.  I remember kneeling at the alter, beside my Mother.  Her watchful eye on me as the bread was passed.  In those days we were not as fancy as today.  Plate piled with large pieces of white bread, done in the kitchen by the faithful ladies of the Church, who did everything like that.  I remember being tempted to take a handful, it looked so good.  But a threating eye from my Mother kept me at bay.  Oh, but those cute little glasses of juice really thrilled me.  We used those kind of glasses at Broadmeadow for many years.  I remember helping with those.  Back to little Dot.  She learned over the years just what bread of life and the blood shed for me really meant.  But to a child it meant == sort of a party. How about you?

My, My, how my thoughts rambled this morning.  My Bird family is having stale Melba toast for their communion.

BIRD FAMILY

The bird world is interesting.  How they "stay together."  With humming bird feeders below me and all around me, I get to enjoy them without the work.  The ones below me seem to be interested in my Balcony.  One flew to the rail above where the Buble' family were having Ritz crackers for breakfast this morning.  Papa Bluble', ever on guard, flew to his side and in no uncertain words, said,"bugg off mister". Now that was rude, or was it?  Just knowing the hummer was not one of his kind, was just like humans. I can not compare the world of birds to humans in some ways, but they make me think.  How we see each other is important.  To accept is crucial.  Just have the whole world on my shoulders this morning.  How about you? Kind of heavy?

FEEL "FRENCHIE" TODAY

Well it is Saturday, always a special day.  Thought of French toast. Mine turned out perfect this morning. Along with fruit drink (for the pills), half of a perfect banana, turkey bacon and coffee of course.  I thought about France.  Our first overseas tour was a whirlwind two and a half weeks.  We skipped through several several countries.  France a favorite.  Truman took pictures galore.  One famous one hangs in my den of the Eiffel Tower.  A rare night one.  They took us on a night tour so we could experience Paris at night.  Complete with the famous Can-Can girls.  We sat on the front row right under the stage and watched those lace stocking legs really kick.  Everything about that first European tour was exciting.  Of course we got to be very "seasoned" travelers over the many years of travel. but that first big one was a "biggie."  I am glad we traveled as much as we did when we were young and healthy enough to enjoy.  Makes beautiful memories, as I enjoy my French Toast this morning.

HELLO

The maintenance guy was out early sweeping geese poop from the sidewalk.  What a way to start his day.  Somebody has to do it.  I also saw MR. So my day started exciting,  what else is new?

RARE TREAT

While sitting on Balcony this morning, I was startled by what I thought at first was a wasp, too large, bigger, a bumble bee?. no--it was a humming bird, looking me in the eye.  I brushed it away before I knew what it was. My neighbor below has two feeders,  I sometime see them buzz my space.  Mistake on their part--treat for me.  They are welcome. They are so fast, it was hard to really see it.  But I am satisfied it was one. Good and sweet start to the day.  Let's  see what else is in store for me.  It is already 78 degrees so I know it will be a hot one.  But after all it is still Summer Time.  "AND THE LIVING IS EASY."  Could not resist the old lyrics from an old, old song.

BLUEBERRIES FOR LITTLE DOT

I know, I know--I write about food a lot.  But when # 2 girl brought me another bounty, I must tell how excited I was to have treats and more. Now I have never had such great blueberries before.  So large, full of juice.  Almost the size of plums.  How great they tasted in my oatmeal.  She brought watermelon, boiled peanuts, corn, yellow squash, okra, and much love.  Don't give hugs just now, but I wanted to.  I will "cook" today Thank you for remembering me.

The Buble' family on my Balcony feasted too, they love whole wheat crackers the best and they all got the message this morning.  They got a little "roudy", they liked the bounty of crackers and my love for them.  From my little corner of the world, I can still "feed"  something.  I am reminded of my Mother.  She always threw scraps out in the yard, saying Something will eat it." And they always did.

72 NOT BAD

Pleasant for sure on Balcony.  Saw two "couples" of Canada Geese deciding the grass is greener on the "other side."  Right below me.  NOBODY  is stirring yet but me.  I woke a little early and just got up.  I have a few little chores to do and might as well start early.  Started with a very good breakfast.  Always nice to have a lovely grapefruit to start  with.  I tried something different in oatmeal.  Never thought of this before.  I had a big tablespoon of sugar-free  strawberry jam left in jar.  Into the oatmeal it went.  My it was good.  Finished with a slice of whole wheat toast with a  slice of Provolone cheese melted on it.  Coffee and I am good to go.  Made you hungry?  I am well aware of my blessing of being able to still cook my own breakfast. How blessed I am.!!!!

NO LIKE GARLIC???

Yesterday as I picked up my lunch, I was almost home when my sack slipped off to the floor.  I picked up the upside mess and saw a garlic cheese biscuit had rolled to the carpet.  I picked it up to feed the birds this morning.  Turns out the are English and not Italian. (who like garlic.)  I do too.  They picked at it and one or too actually ate a crumb or two.  But they refused to eat anymore.  I guess they did not want "garlic breath"?  I think the small garlic cheese things are good.

That does it for today.  Go find your own fun.

AHHH 78 degrees

I needed a treat this morning for breakfast.  Those of you who must follow a Diabetic diet, know it can be a challenge sometime to make someting good happen.  I have over  the years created a few ways to do that.  French toast is one.  Mine is not as sweet or as delightful as what you get at famous resturants.  But will pass with sugar-free syrup or without  powdered sugar on top.  Actually all that does not sound good to me anymore.  I sifted through my mind and remembered the Log Cabin syrup of old with the little tin
log cabin container.  Remember?  In my little girl days, that must have been special to get the little tin cabin of syrup, because we usually had homemade syrup from Daddy's family who lived in the sugar cane land and made their own.  Today I had Log Cabin syrup. only sugar-free.  O. K. It tasted sweet.   I remember visiting Grandparents in the country of Holmes County, and watching them make syrup.  I did not like the taste of it.  But to chew on bites of raw sugar cane was fun.

MOR'NIN Y'ALL

Y'all is a Southern word.  My dictionary spells it You-All. also a southern word, (it says).  But we Southerners have our own unique way of saying it.  Anyway-I met Mr. Jimmy Dean this morning.  He was traveling down a country road and he said, "How about breakfast? Y'all."  So I said ,"O. K., it has been a while." Very good. On another subject. "Late Bloomer,"  Also in the dictionary.  "a person who matures , achieves proficiency in some field or skill, later than a person is  expected to." I did not expect it to even be there, but we all think of a "late bloomer" in another way.  Like MISS BOBBETTA of the Blue' Bird family on my Balcony.  She still has a bobbed tail.  Did you know any late bloomers in your youth?  I was most certainly one.  Not fun at the time, but I do believe those "early bloomers" had a hard time too.  Just growing up can be trying, yet fun too.  Oh, how do I come up with such stuff?  I never know for sure what I will say next.

Be advised. although we had a good rain shower late yesterday, it is still hot.  Moved my chair to find a little shade on Balcony.  Saw MISS I STILL LOOK GOOD IN SHORTS & BASEBALL CAP , go girl Go.  I also planted orange seed I saved and dried from my breakfast oranges.  I have a big flower pot that refuses to grow anything.  I remember in the past planting lemon seed and they sprouted.  Not into tropical lemon trees, but fun to watch.  Nothing lost there.  #2 daughter is back home from visit to her grandchildren.  Good for her and Mr. T. My great grandchildren are beautiful kids in every way, thanks to good parents I think This writing in purple makes me tell you about the good purple plums we are having on the fruit tray.  They have an amazing array of fruit for us to choose from each day in the dinning room each day.   I love all fruit.  Hey maybe I can grow some oranges.  Anything is possible.  My, what a mixed up Blog--just like me.

THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

Research on "Dog Days of Summer is extensive. Can't tell it all.  Some is made up of old time sayings and then the real ones.  It apparently is named for the Dog Star Sirius, because during July and August it rises and sets with the sun.  I always picture the old hot dog, who has few sweat glands, under a tree, panting from the heat.  I learned too much about it really.  I wrote a poem about it a while ago.  I will have to look it up, but right now It is too hot to work.

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch, things go on.  Haven't seen the White Cowboy Hat any more.  His work is done, I guess. Few walkers-understandable.  But I did worry about one yesterday when about 3'oclock when he should have been inside, he was walking around the Lake, stopping  every now and then, bending over and pulling weeds I guess from the cracks in the sidewalk.   Oh how I was glad when he finally finished his "job" and gave it up. So foolish of him. in this heat.

SPLASH AND DASH

In the pool earl WHEE!!!  With 76 degrees at 7:30,  wonder what it will be later?  Too hot.  Time for the pool. Not  me.  . I observed a man having the time of his life just marching around the edge of pool, causing lots of waves.  Not so happy was a Lady (not with him I think) just trying to do her exercise across the pool.  Not together, because I think she would scold him for disturbing her.  Maybe she did anyway, because he kind of calmed down or he was out of steam from being so splashy. So be it.  Even the birds are fussing at each other.  My Mama used to say the heat caused more crime when it got real hot.  Think she was right.  Cooked my own breakfast of oatmeal with a banana that was ripe yesterday.  Juice, turkey bacon with rye toast was it for this morning. Kind of the usual.  Coffee stays hot on Balcony longer, so I stayed a little too long.  It got hot and I moved my chair behind the post to get out of the sun so the view was not too wide--I gave it up and here I am sitting in the cool room and writing about nothing-excuse me.

MISS BOBBSIE TAIL

There is one little sparrow who has not grown a decent tail.  I don't know if it is going to grow or stay bobtailed.  At least she will stand out.  I always wanted to stand out.  But as a little girl I was small and not too cute. With a face full of freckles, I really wanted to hide.  I grew into somewhat a timid  big girl.  I had nicknames like shorty, short stuff, little bit, and  pee wee.  Hated that last one. That is what my boss at work called me.  But along came a very determined young man and thought I was wonderful.  Married the guy and lived happily for many years.  Maybe Miss Bobbie Tail will meet her mate even tough she has a different look.  Looks can be unique, be boring if we all looked the same.  TO EACH HIS OWN.  Great old song.  "I've found my own,  and that one is you."

ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS

Must tell you about this.  I was amazed.  I sat in Bubble yesterday about 3 o'clock. I have never seen so many Canada Geese all around the banks of the Lake.  Along came this fast moving man wearing a great white cowboy hat.  He started to shoo the geese by waving his hat and arms.  He started herding them like a bunch of wild cows or horses.  He would go up behind groups scare them and wave them into the Lake, moving  on to the next group, until he rounded the lake at the dam. and looked back at the water.  Over the dam he went and stood like the master of the ranch. He stood  in the middle on the dam and looked over his work, only to see they had all jumped back on to the banks.  What a sight, he turned and backed tracked his steps, and shooed them again, waving his big white cowboy hat.  It took him 30 or 45 minutes to redo his task.  But he stayed the course and every goose was back in the Lake or else flew away. He jammed the white cowboy hat on his head    and strolled off into the "sunset" onto the street that led to the houses and  I presume his house.  Our hero. !!!  Wonder just who he is--Matt  Dillon or one of the Cartwrights?  I had a show right before me.  True Story, I promise.  I will check him out again, maybe.  Some time the Good  guys who wear the white hats have a hard time winning, but they never give up.  Aren't we lucky that they don't.

I caught the Blood Sugar low this morning, so I had a pancake for breakfast from Cyber.  Bacon & scrambled egg and coffee.  MMMM good.  It is hot again, welcomed break for the heat is over.  I think the birds think it has been Spring again and that revived them.  Such singing and activity this morning.  Finally people who have humming bird feeders are busy keeping them full.  Below me are two feeders and I see them up close some time.  An early visit from Amy who brought me provisions (groceries).  She said it was a good time to shop, not as busy in Kroger.  She is good at bring me fun surprises.  Will enjoy the little goodies as well as the things I need. NEWBIE??

I don't know if new, but I haven't seen this before.  I saw a mother sparrow feeding her little one this morning.  He (or she) was so patient.  She would take a crumb of whole wheat cracker(nothing but the best for my friends) and eat it herself and then hop to baby, who's beak was wide open, drop another crumb  in his beak and repeat the prosses.  The baby did not make a sound, just waited so in place that I wondered if he was alright. Seemed unusual to me, but so is Nature.  A gaggle of Canada Geese flew over  with much to do.  Over the Lake they circled.  Did not land, just swooped back over my Balcony up close and took off again.  Did you not feel welcome this morning?  Maybe they saw me watching.   Resident Egret strolled the bank, looking for breakfast. We all need a good one to start our day.  I sure enjoy mine.

If I did not have the Balcony to see the world nor a good breakfast to  write about, what else is left?  My poor outdated advice is not needed anymore, so I will keep those thoughts under wrap.  SO BE IT.

Ahhhhh!!!!!! 69 degrees

A gentle breeze and 69 degrees is not bad at all.  How it makes me think back to long ago as a little girl.  August  and getting ready for school.  Those days we started school right after Labor Day.  My kids did too.  Gradually it has become sooner.  With air conditioning now, it is much better.  In my day it could still be hot some September days.  New clothes could get itchy.  New shoes and everything new.  I dearly loved the new school stuff in my book satchel (as we called them  then).  I still, like others I have heard to say, the smell of a jar of paste and crayons sent dreams of creating pictures to hang around the school room.  Primary colors only.. kids have it better now.  And lunch in the school  "Lunch" room, as it was called.  Still  smell the veg. soup,  as we went down the stairs to the basement room. Ice cream in little Dixie cups with their sweet little wooden spoons. Ah, sweet memories and yet  scared as I was I,  strived to do my best.  Just the average student, but wanting to be more.

OASIS

O, K, please, one more Dictionary definition.  OASIS:  'fertile place due to water, any place or thing offering welcome relief." Small word, but it says a lot.  I will think of my Balcony as an oasis, an enjoy.  It is very nice there this morning.  Always something to observe.  This morning a gaggle of Canada Geese flew over with such a noise that I was startled.  My they want to be noticed.  It was once more that I thanked the Lord for this "haven" in witch  I am so blessed to live.  As trying as these times are, I feel safe and taken care of.  Angels everywhere. My good friend Judy who lives here had a birthday yesterday.  I made my signature tissue flowers to top her card.  It said have a happy, wild day.  I write in the card, "just not too wild."  How do you get wild at ZCV?  I saw a couple swimming in the almost dark pool last night.  Oh, Oh, --how wild and sweet is that? 76 DEGREES -- NICE

Grey skies, but a little rain to cool us off.  Oh what a relief it is. Not much action from the Balcony, but the peace it brings is welcomed.  I saw only two ducks and no people.  Afraid you might get wet?  That would feel good.  Sunday's are a little sad.  Can't go to church in person and I feel lost without it. Some good   on TV but not the same as  sitting in the actual pew and feeling a presence that   I don't feel anywhere else. Oh, I rush to say, I feel Gods presence always, but you know what I mean. Ben going to Church since I was born and it is a part of me.

Hey, I had a treat this morning for breakfast.  Don't you love a fresh, whole wheat English muffin?  Me too.  So good toasted with strawberry jam.  The usual oatmeal with a just ripe banana can't be beat either.  Always can write about food.  Don't get bored, something good may happen today and I will write about that -- like Scarlet said--fiddle-de-de!!! What do you think of when you hear that?  Children?  First cracker?  Been around for a long time.  Named for S. Graham (1704-1932), U. I also redid my Hall table.  My mothers beautiful embroidered scarf, done by her long time  ago, filled with flowers, she loved them. I did a yellow squash colored  vase filled with yellow and purple flowers.  Around it I placed my little Chines babies, dressed scantly.  Also pretty padded Chinese figures Amy gave me.  All looked good , to me.  Just hope I don't get called out for nudity for my babies.  How could I?  They are so sweet and cute.
