WARM ALREADY

Well, we asked for it. Be careful what you asked for. Heat is on its way. So out come the new CLAM-DIGGERS, I think that is funny what they are called now. Anyway, I am ready with white, kaki, black. light blue and denim. So I will break out one pair and go with it. I have seen men and ladies already in shorts. Now that is, in some cases, a sight to see. Can't do that anymore. Why am I so worried about how I look? I may bend a little as it gets warmer. Yesterday we had a Birthday party for SCV. Don't know how old we are exactly. A line formed at the front door and into the Lobby. All blowing horns, ringing bells, and wearing hats.  Pushing a large cart with a huge Birthday cake and a big  container of punch. Out into the Rose Garden they went and set up a party. If I thought I could have navigated the rough stones of the path, I would have gone to it. I just gazed from the window and was glad some could do it. It looked like fun, all decorated with balloons and banners. Everyone seems to be ready to go back to normal. Hope not too soon. We are ready to celebrate anything.

GOOD MORNING

And what a beauty again. My Balcony Garden is doing good. Such a delight to look out and enjoy the view even more. I would argue with anyone here that I have the best view and best place to see it all. No walkers yet this morning. Thankfully the Mockingbird has caught up with his songfest. I bet he has a sore throat from all that mocking he did yesterday. He sure had plenty to say. In the background I hear his voice--SENIOR, SENIOR,SENIOR. What was he talking about? Oh, well, he was far away from me. I had a lumberjack of a  breakfast this morning. Juice, fresh orange, scrambled egg with cheese, turkey bacon, toasted SCV dinning room biscuit. coffee of course. That should do me for a while. My closets are full of Winter, Spring, and yes Summer too. Must cull and pack up what I do not need now. Big job. Seems like the week went by fast, here it is Friday. Time does march on.

TOO MUCH FUN

There is such a thing as just too much.  I have been at it for a few days. Need to slow up. Although, I enjoy new and fun things, I get tired too quick. Dr. Sotolongo trip went fast and well. Good to go for another 3 months. I am really HIGHA MAINTENANCE. Always something to take care of. Went to see Mt. T's new office after appointment. It is so very nice and convenient. for him. I am glad he moved. Came home to flop on bed even though it was late. Just relaxed-did not sleep. Jan appeared with new cushions for my balcony chairs. Very pretty, she texted Amy pictures and Amy chose for her. Now I have something of Martha Stewart. Up town for sure.

Went to Cyber for breakfast. Blueberry pancake. Needed it. Was good. Don't know why   my computer switched on me. Oh, well, all else is right this morning.

FEELING GOOD

Appointments went well. Up graded my hearing aid and can hear again. wow!!  Wonderful lunch at SAL AND PHIL'S. Have not been there in I can't remember when. Best fish I ever had. Then on to top the day off --Freshway Flower   market to buy some happiness. I cleaned them out, almost. I think the pink Geranium is my favorite. I got Petunias, purple, Verbena, Hibiscus, yellow Begonias, even a potato vine, and much more. Broke the Bank, but I do not care, the pleasure and work, is what I need. And to top it off, this morning I saw MR. BIG HAT. All is well now. But the pessimist in me, says --just for today.

APPOINTMENT DAY

Regular appointment with ENT Dr. and also  I wanted to see  my Audiologist to check my hearing aids. Seems I am not catching every word anymore. Hope I just need an adjustment to my Aids.  My ENT Dr. is just for a cleaning, which I have to do regularly. My I do require a lot of maintenance. Just like your car, must keep it running . Sometime smooth and sometime rough!  Oh, well, what else is new? The rain has moved on out and we will have smooth traveling for today.

Yesterday I cooked fresh yellow squash, okra, and an "almost there" tomato. So good. And easy to do. Today, I guess A. and I will eat out after my appointments. Wonder where? The choices are fun. We will see.

MONDAY MONDAY

Some do not like Monday's. Back to school or work-related duties. But others welcome it. Mothers of course are glad to get the kids back to school and indeed husbands back to work. But then they have to go back to their duties also. But a change of pace and something different, does make the world go round. I decided on a change for the Buble' family of birds and gave them graham crackers this morning. Mmmmm? What is this they seem to say. BIG MOUTH announced it from the edge of the Balcony. His mate came and tasted and chirped loudly too. I hope the whole neighborhood enjoy the Monday Treat.  My table in the hall got a change. My beautiful lavender roses were thoroughly enjoyed by many. Thanks again to Granddaughter MG. Never had such beauties. But they are just a sweet memory now. I hope I will not be called out for "nudity." I put my little ceramic nude oriental babies out there, pink artificial flowers in a yellow vase. All my neighbors (ladies) were giggling at them with delight. One said, "I'll go get a diaper for them." Just a little fun for us.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY

Guess who I got to see from the Balcony? Now I know why the pair of Canada Geese have been hanging around. I saw Mama Goose, 4 goslings, and a very proud Papa Goose strolling down the sidewalk by the Lake. Murmuring instructions to the little lively ones. My they were big for babies. They kept going into the grass looking for breakfast. Papa   urged them on. I guess he was nervous or else just showing his authority as a parent. I wondered how many eggs she hatched to just have 4 left. It is a jungle out there and they don't all survive. It made a happy start to the day. And it is a beauty of a day.

SATURDAY

Old habit. Saturday is a different kind of day. Well it used to be. Now it is the same as yesterday. But still feels different. Kind of a happy day. Always a break from the work week, appointments and such. Even different food. I used to go to Burger King (I think it was) after Truman got home from golf and buy  two Jr, size hamburgers and one small fry. We would dress it up at home with more mayo and tomato & lettuce. Share the fries and then he would peel an apple and spread it with PeanutButter for dessert. Grandchildren loved it when they came, for him to make the famous treat-Apple & Peanut Butter. Of course that was just a time in my life that I remember Saturdays . The memories change over a life  time. Bet you have some too.

THANK;S LORD, FOR ANOTHER BEAUTY

I write in blue. My favorite color. Open my closet doors and you see  a sea of blue A happy color. Next to  yellow. I am enjoying my new glad rags. No rags for sure but glad. Actually thankful for my personal shopper (daughter # 2. She has missed her calling. Would have made a good personal dresser to the stars, Hey maybe I am a "star." Feel like it with a nice new "wardrobe."      Enough of that.!!! Actually the news is slow. Found my sugar level 79 this morning. I need to eat more I guess. I try. So I quickly drank some o. j. and ate a peppermint candy. Fixed a good breakfast and still feel a little shaky. That will pass soon I hope. Can't explain this diabetes. It is a constant  thing that I have to deal with. Thank goodness I can. Have learned a lot, but sometime I get tired of it. 62 degrees and perfect

So, no walkers.? Come on, it is perfect for walking. Birds are up and two "fellows" came. I think they have mates at home. Because they eat a little fast and fly off with cracker in mouth, as if they are feeding Mama as she sits on nest. Maybe babies are about to hatch, and she deserves to rest while she can. I saw two very elegant Canada Geese floating as mates. and behind at a safe distant I saw a third party. I told him that three is a crowd and he might better find his own mate. Just putting "quacks" in their throat I do love to make up stories about them. I am glad we have them here and they are behaving nice now and not too many of them. Yesterday I made fresh Pimiento cheese and took my next-door neighbor, who is always thoughtful of me, a little jar of it. I save the cute little jars (large size) that pimientos come in and reuse them for little bits of leftovers. One made a perfect container for just the right amount for a sandwich or to put on crackers. Not many make homemade anymore. I have heard one say she never turns on her oven, just uses it for storage. Many are tired of cooking and just don't do much anymore.

50 something & windy

I went outside on Balcony anyway. Have been missing it lately. Kind of chilly but I stayed till coffee got cold. That did not take long. Nobody walking yet. I was fortified by a great, big breakfast. I am overwelled with good fresh fruit. The strawberries have been the best. Jan brought me half of cantaloupe . It had such a good taste. I had a good plumb, pear and long gone grapes. There is always apple, orange and banana too. So put it all together, I have been a little "fruity."  But I do enjoy all kinds. I had egg over light, turkey bacon, rye toast and a lovely little tomato with it. Now I did not eat that many fruits this morning, don't misread me. Silly me. My new little coffee pot is happy doing her job and I am pleased with her.

Hey, the sun just peeped out !! Now it will warm up a bit. Let us see what fun there is waiting for me and you.

WENT WILD

I write in red today, because yesterday was a Red-Letter Day. I got to go to Dillard's for the first time in I can't remember how long. Too long. We went early, except they don't open till eleven now, but we were almost first ones there. Strange. Good for us. It looked beautiful and fairy-like. Well stocked and just a few helpful ladies running about trying to take care of business as usual. I really enjoyed just letting go and picked so many new outfits. My clothes are all too big since I lost weight. I felt like a new person as I tried on and bought size 6 pants. Do you know they call cropped pants CLAM DIGGERS now? They reached way back for that one. Anyway, since I shop so seldom and really needed something new, I tried not to feel guilty for spending so much money. Jan said, not to worry about that. O. K., I feel good instead.

FANTASTIC DAY

It was a grand time. We have not been able to gather for a meal together for too long. Granddaughter and husband are great host. The house is so interesting, and the yard was beautiful. They have together done wonders for the yard and every room was fun to explore. 10 of us and in that number, we had a visitor. Feel like she is one of us and such a good friend of # 3 daughter. Now you may agree, if you have shared a meal with us, that we have the best cooks in the world. Everything was so good and perfect. Got to enjoy traditional and new also. I am so proud of my family and those who have joined it as well. No mistakes here.

I plan to go to Dillard's with # 2 daughter this morning. Hope to add to or replace some old glad rags. Think of me and hope I can take such nice excitement in two days.

EASTER MORNING 2022

Here we are. A dull looking sky, but the sun is shining behind the Clouds. I am going to Church and then to lunch at Sophia and Paul's house. Along with other sweet members of family for lunch and visit. We haven't had many get-to-gathers of late. What a joy for us. E-Mail from Linda, and picture of her present Easter basket she received this morning from Easter Bunny. The traditional chocolate bunny sat in it. Memory for her. She remembered the early morning for the nest of eggs she and sisters found in the back yard. Truman made sure the grass was mowed, so we could make a real nest of grass that the GIANT BUNNY left for them. Remember the appearance he made one Easter.? It kind of scared them, as he hopped in with a voice that sounded like a bunny. He said he was looking for LINDA AND JAN. Before Amy was there, I think. My that goes way back. I could go on and on, since I have so many Easter memories.

NEW-----MAYBE

It may not be new to you, but to me it was a first. I had a small amount of sugar free fruit cocktail left over. Being brought up to be frugal, I said, eat it. I put it into my oatmeal this morning. Poured the remaining juice in my orange juice. Was good and as they say, "with a cherry on top.

O. K. that said, on to something else. Do you remember your Easter basket as a child. I remember some. But what stands out was the big chocolate hollow egg, with my name on it. Somewhere downtown, maybe Woolworth's, would sell them and someone would write names in white icing. Special for sure. Of course it was decorated with flowers or something in pretty colors. Hard to break it up and eat it. I remember sometime it would have an opening in the side and you could peek at a surprise inside. Flower, eggs, or bunny. Anyway it was a great thing then. I loved the "good times" when I would get a stuffed bunny. I am sure my childhood memories are greatly embellished and bet yours are too .

BLUEBERRIES IN OATMEAL MMMM

Blueberries in oatmeal is a fine way to start. I like to keep a few in my freezer. Miss GEVI perked merrily as I worked with rest of breakfast. I did a little google research and seems she is made in the Netherlands. Her box says she is MADE IN CHINA. Seems she has been traveling. Oh well. it is a small world after all.

I fed the Buble' family crumbs from my Rye toast. I wonder how they will like a touch of   honey? Just a little. That is all I eat. A little bit goes a long way for me.         Good Friday and it does not yet seem like Easter is near. Things are so different for me now. How I used to love new Easter dresses when I was growing up and then to dress three little girls later was frosting - on - the-cake. I guess a little boy dressed in his best, would have been fun too. My, My, the way my mind races down Memory Lane. I can hardly keep up.

49 A ND BREEZY

A really loud storm last night. Seems, we are having them too regular. Keeps the weather people too excited. Thanks for them. Well, my new coffee pot finally arrived. All neat and cute. The brand is GEVI. Never heard of it before. Sounds kind of "Frenchie." So, I assume it is not a MR. I will call it a girl. Miss GEVI performed just great. Tripping right through her steps with a flair, as if she has moved in and taken over her duty seriously. Welcome my dear. Hope your stay is long and uneventful. Enough of that silly talk.

I took my #1 daughters' advice and made my French (in honor of Miss Gevi) toast this morning. I used her way of cooking it. First you cut the bread into bite size squares before you dip in egg and milk. So, when they cook, they are ready to eat. bite size. I liked the way they cooked, so crisp all over and around. And no cutting. Thanks, old dogs do learn new tricks.

WET CUSHIONS

The rain last night wet the Balcony and along with the wind, it wet my chair cushions -- so no sitting out there this morning. Meanwhile, I see through the window, the Buble' family are enjoying Rye toast crumbs. They like Rye bread. I do too. We all found out that my neighbor across my hall gave us the strawberries. Not everyone got lucky. He went to a Farmers' Market someplace. I have not spoken to him yet. I will write a thank you note this morning. They were so good. SANDELS ON MY FEET !!!!

Yes, out they come. My Mother would never let me go barefoot outside. She said, "What if you cut your foot and then could not wear shoes to Sunday School?" I used to think, even Jesus wore sandals. So, I gave up. I even put on slippers in the house. Old habits sometime last.

BIRDS: A lesson this morning. This Loudmouth one came, and I watched his routine. After announcing he is here, he grabs the largest crumb and hops to the edge with it. 9 times out of 1O he opens his large mouth and out it falls to the ground. While his more cautious little sister hops to the back of the big pot and drops it. She eats hers and slowly enjoys the whole bite. Lesson there? I have watched the same birds (I think) for a while, and I am sure they have different personalities. Just like people. Some are selfish and uncaring--while others are not.  After breakfast in Cyber, I was long down the Hall to home, when a lady caught up with me, thinking it was me who left keys hanging in the mailbox and open. Wasn't me, (although I have done that) I thought, "little acts of kindness".

RAINY MONDAY

I write in grey this morning. Because the skies are grey with rain. I thought of Robert Louis Sevenson's poems. The one about rain always was my favorite. When you read it, especially if rain was "falling all around", like the poem said, you could feel the "rain was falling all around and on the "ships at sea." I loved reading to my girls as they grew up to love reading and they all still do. What a gift. Did some things right, I guess.

Little mystery going on, but the silence is broken, and we are wondering who left the very ripe and good strawberries at each door a few days ago. It appears, most people got one. Nice basket full and have been enjoying them on everything. Oatmeal this morning. I wish we could thank the person, but don't know who????

Thank you, John Denver. I must find your CD and play it again. Love his voice. Love Mr. Amazon too. He said new coffee pot is on it's way, will arrive Monday. Thanks to Jan too. Like I told you, I bought a large coffee yesterday and put it in fridge for this morning. Meanwhile I gave myself and Mr. Presto one more chance. I put it back together again.

Lo and Behold I did it. So this morning, I put the ready made coffee and one more cup of water plus a spoonful of grounds in and turned it on. It worked!!! Too late, I will still retire you and hope I don't need your service anymore. Thanks to the ones who answered my pitiful cries. I appreciate it. So coffee on the Balcony was nice. I saw one lone papa goose floating near my side of Lake. It is so quiet without all the hubbub of late. I guess nest are being filled and soon little geese will appear. I always seem to be having a "war" against something. My Presto is getting the cold shoulder. Amy will order a new one when she gets home. Meanwhile--no coffee pot that works. Lucky me, I can just walk down and buy coffee at the Cyber. Thing is, you have to be at least dressed appropriately. No old long robe and nightgown underneath. But that is a good thing. They are closed on Sunday. No problem. I will just buy a large cup this afternoon and put it in the fridge Sunday morning. Hey, I am not picky about that.

Let us go to a safe subject-Birds. As I sat on Balcony and just put out crackers, a beautiful Bluebird floated in. And before he could eat a cracker, Mr. Loudmouth swooped in and made such a fuss. Here I am with the birds in the green trees. One is screaming, "Teacher, Teacher, Teacher!!!! A quick answer came " (then) Teach, Teach, Teacher!!!  I declare that is what I heard. I quickly spread my wings and flew as far as I could back to the Balcony. My mind has been going around an idea (suggestion of # 3 daughter.) Not that she said teach exactly but write poems again. We have been reading THE LINCOLN HIGHWAY, and she suggested since I have traveled many a highway in my days, maybe a poem about that subject?  I admit it does conure up a lot of subjects to ponder. Just not in the middle of the night, please. Will think about it some today. I think she could write stories and poems too. I am still surprised at the many, many poems and essays that tumbled out of this feeble brain and on to paper. But I have been in a dry spell lately. MORE SPRING WEATHER

Spring seems to be a little angry or is it Winter not ready to leave. Either way we are having unsettled weather. No problem for me anyway. I have nowhere to go and plenty food and other provisions, so I can sit tight and watch the raindrops fall. What a place in my life am I?  Content to take the little problems that do come up and solve them with many years of wisdom and go with the flow. Like getting excused from jury duty last week. What was that computer thinking when it landed on me? Not that I mind my Civic Duty, I have done that before, but at 95, I am done. This life now. does bring many small benefits and I am on a mission to discover some of them.  Like this morning when I went to breakfast in the Cyber. My good cook friend put my raspberries in my beautiful pancake. Bacon. scrambled egg and coffee rounded it out and another perk. Just small things, but important. I wish for new inspiration to write more poems. People keep asking me for them.  Looks like that alone would inspire me. But not yet.

MONDAY, MONDAY

I see Monday as a new start. From my balcony I see more couples of geese and less noise too. I was startled yesterday to see a large Canada Goose, (male) standing on the golf tee. Just tapping his feet and saying, "hurry up, honey and pick a spot, time is flying." I hope they don't pick one close to me. I also saw a "regular" duck waiting patiently for his mate. She was going in and out of the shrubby, shaking her lovely neck. "I can't make up my mind. Maybe we will come back tomorrow." He sighed as they waddled off toward the Lake. Now I hope they will come back and make their nest close, so I can watch. It will give me material to write. Made up or true. Meanwhile the air is cool and calm. I love the reflections of Willow and Cyprus trees when the wind is calm. New leaves are beautiful and green. Looks like a new start. Church was good and A. and I enjoyed talking. When the guy blew the whisel --he would announce in a very loud voice ALLLLL ABOARD. We would always laugh. John is still around, but I doubt if he could sound so funny and loud now. Time marches on, too fast. BB.

CHATTANOOGA CHOO=CHOO?

Ham & eggs in Carolina?  No in the Cyber. Just kidding again. Those eggs and ham with a toasted biscuit were mighty fine, as usual. Changed my choice up a little. Rules I think, but this one is my friend, and she bends a little. I am nice to her-it pays to be nice. As you can tell, I started the day letting someone wait on me. Low reading of sugar, so that is my signal to up - it a little. It takes a little more effort to face the day all showered and dressed and with a smile, but it is worth it. Met my new eye Doctor and liked him. He gave me a stable report (always good) and keep doing what you have been doing and, see you in 6 months. O. K.  will do. We had lunch a place that has been there a while on 51 called EATS. Nice little place and good too. Will go back, since they had a long menu, and we want to try something more.
