I MADE IT!!

I was born just after midnight on the early morning of January 31st, 1927.  86 years ago times were really different.  I was born at home in my  parent's bed.  Times have really changed since I entered this world.  Some things good, some not.

A resident here who I call "happy" because she is so funny and happy. stopped me in the hall and with a lot of people around, sang happy birthday in Polish to me.  She does it to others, but I had never heard her.  Now that was a first and so sweet.  I must go to breakfast.  Tell you more later.

SUNDAY

No real news.  Church is always good.  I hope Rob stays as long as I am around.  Just Amy and me.  Lunch at McAlister's was good.  Nap and then I read book and went to visit Irene.  Kind of quiet around here on Sunday.  Monday(right now) will pick up as it is my busy day and I welcome it.

P. S.  Jan gave me a beautiful dictionary for my birthday.  I lost mine in the move.  I was using a pocket dictionary that Truman had in the Navy.  You should see it.  My he was an interesting man!!  My new one reads like a novel.  Pictures and a lot more.  I was excited.  Amy gave me another SHE AND HIM CD.  Have you heard her sing?  So good.  I guess my P.S. had more news than my E-Mail message. That's me--MISS AFTERTHOUGHT.  Sometime that is good.  MaMaw

BIRTHDAY GIRL?

No "girl" here unless you call her an "old girl"!!!But she loves a party.  It was great.  The lasagna was perfect.  Two kinds.  One veggies and white cheese.  Garlic bread looked and smelled good.  I passed on it.  Beautiful salad (Mary Grace)  Appetizers by Cary and Sophie were Divine.  So many thoughtful and nice cards and gifts.  My, My. I am a lucky "girl".  Ha! 86.  That even surprises me.   The dessert was the old, old, recipe that always seemed impossible to me.  You make this chocolate mixture and pour boiling water over it and bake.  What comes out is this wonderful cake and pudding thing that will blow your mind.  MMMMMMgood!!  I had a small bowl and enjoyed every bite.  So off to Church we go.

BIRTHDAY BASH

Well I am having another birthday!! I will be 86 next Thursday the 31st.  We are celebrating tonight at Jan's house.  As usual I requested lasagna.  I like it and never gett to eat it until my birthday.  Truman always told me I would live to be 90.  Lord I hope not.  I just pray I have a good quality of life as long as I live.  Enough on that subject.

I had a cheese omelet with a side of bacon and coffee at the Cyber.  All by myself.  But I can be pretty good company sometime.  Was good and now I shampoo and read my bible and pray for all of you.  Do a little laundry and then go to Walmart.  Rest and go to Jan's house.  Wish you all could be here!!

THOUGHT FOR RHE DAY

Robert Fulghum has written:  "The grass is not, in fact, greener on the other side of the fence.  Fences have nothing to do with it.  The grass is greenest where it is watered."

Wish I had said that!!!!

THIS AND THAT

Sunday was so good.  SOPHIA"s is a beautiful resturant and the food and service was perfect.  Eleven of us around a big long table in a private room.  Reminded me of all the long tables I used to arrange.  Truman insisted we all sit together and he would drag all the picnic tables and such for me to cover.  What a hodgepodge,  But we were together.  Always important to him.  I miss him so much at gatherings we have. A good friend here lost her husband yesterday.  I understand.

Rest of story

Somehow, I cut me off.  Here is the rest.  Amy is coming for lunch and we will deliver some flowers to shut ins and others wno need them.  That is about all I have to say.

GOOD DAY

How can you not like this day!!  Sun is shining and mild temps,  Then breakfast in Cyber with friends,  and daughter Jan came to help me through some prescription woes.  My she is a BIG help.  I know why I get along so well--help from my family.  I would be lost without them,  What one can't help me with--another can.  Now I would say I am blessed,  Jan had lunch with me and then we went to work to help me over a bump.  She took paper work home with her and will work on it.

We are all {most of us} are going to have lunch at SOPHIA'S restaurant {no, not our Sophie} but the one at the Fairview Inn.  We will celebrate Paul's birthday.  Look up the restaurant on google and see how pretty it is and then look at the Sunday's Brunch menu.  Looks very good.  I will tell you about it later.  I just checked out a book called HOW THE STATES GOT THEIR SHAPES by Mark Stein.  Looks good. It is new here.  I am the first to check it out.  Not in big print so the reading will go slow.  But I have time and new books can be kept two weeks.

LET IT SNOW !!!!!!

Yes it snowed last night.  The grounds were covered with 2-4 inches of the white stuff.  I ate breakfast in the Cyber at 7:30 this morning and had a beautiful view of it coming down.  So pretty.  Now it is afternoon and the sun is out and snow almost all melted.  Now that is the right way to have snow.

I had a special lunch in the dinning room called "COUNTRY COOKING"  Fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, old fashioned meat loaf and all kinds of veggies.  My was it good.  Now I am off to walk it off.

MONDAY

I woke at 6:00 and went to the kitchen and started Cinnamon bread.  Really it is like cake but not as sweet.  Took it to coffee club and exercise class.  Doesn't go together?  You would be surprised.  They think I slaved over it but it is a mix.  But hey I added my eggs and oil and stirred it up.  One little funny so far today.  I got on the elevator going up and a lady said what floor?  I said 3.  She started us up and said 3rd floor--Ladies Ready To Wear.  Not very funny, but you had to be there.  Anything for a laugh.  Maybe as the day goes on  it will get funnier.  You have to know Marge to appreciate her.  She was in the Marines as a nurse in WW11.  Loves to tell you she is 90 years old.  I love her.

GIRLS CAME

Jan and Cary came.  Good to see them and have lunch together.  For one reason or another, Jan has missed coming for a while and Cary too.  So it was great.  Cary likes the Turkey burger.  Jan had salad with shrimp.  I had a toco salad.  I went to Walmart after the visit.  Saturday afternoon is fine if you want to see lots and lots of all kinds of people.  Jan said Sunday afternoon is much worse.  When you are in need of important stuff--you have to go.  More rain today and most of the week to come.  The ducks love it.  I watched them from the bubble and they are really made for it. Must get ready for church,

TOOK A CHANCE

Hey you only go around once---I ate pancakes in the Cyber.  They like me in there so much and since I was the first customer of the day, they outdid it.  I did not eat it all, so maybe with a brisk walk and lots of water (don't forget to pray) I will get by this time.  They were gooooood.  Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.

AMY CAME

Amy came for lunch and a visit.  We never get done talking, so it is good to have just the two of us.  Rain let up but to catch it"s breath for another round this weekend.  I am getting my hair cut this afternoon.  Not a day too soon.  Messy hair makes me a little sick so I will feel better later.  Exercise this morning and I am glad I have been able to keep that going because I know it keeps me going.

This is the day the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.

TOO EARLY FOR THIS

Yesterday morning I woke at my usual time of 6:00 A,M.  As I shuffled to the bath room with one eye open, I saw him.  One eye was all it took to see this awful, ugly. caddy size brown and black--ROACH!! He looked me in the eye as I stopped and said "Catch me if you can".  I said "Not only will I catch you but I will destroy you."  The battle was on as he jumped in my direction.  I grabbed the first weapon I saw--a can of hairspray.  I gave him a good dose and he ran like crazy, trying to find an out.  Suddenly he turned toward me again and I grabbed the toilet  brush.  I beat him over and over.  He would not give up.  Then he got caught up in the brush and I was able to finally shake him in the toilet for a swim to the ocean.  He was still swimming crazy like with his hairy little feet when I flushed him away.  I won the battle but at 6:00 A.M.?

I thought you needed to hear this.

GOOD REPORT

I did get a very good report from eye doctor Tuesday.  I am very thankful!!Dr. Newman is still amazed at how well I can see.  Of course this is his eye chart But I do see well to drive and read.  Two very important things to have.  Rain today and some expected all week, even into the weekend.

I have a Writer's Group meeting today.  I wrote two valentine poems.  And I wrote a story about a valentine I received when I was 16.  You don't need to hear that one.Well off to breakfast.  I do love to eat breakfast in the Cyber.  I will be careful .

DULL SATURDAY

Met the "storey teller" in the hall.  He had a "new " story.  A crowd quickly gathered around.  He said "I met the laziest man in the world in Las Vegas.  He gave his Dachshund away and got a Great Dane, so he would not have to bend over to pet him"  A pause and a big round of applause.  We encourage him because we can't let him feel unappreciated.  Some of his stories are better.  Still can't figure why the story took place in Las Vegas. Can You?

WEEK END

Another week has past.  Seems fast.  How boring to keep saying that, but it is true. Some mundane things to do.  Change sheets and a little laundry.  Shampoo hair.  Work on a little problem with medicine 0rder.  I hate that part, but things do get messed up.  The big Blues Marathon is today.  Pretty good weather for it.  It has gotten to be a big event for Jackson.  Sophie will be out of that now as she starts her new position at Millsaps soon.  She is so happy and I am glad for her.  Amy came yesterday and had lunch with me.  She has been so busy with the wedding and then Christmas and has not been able to visit here much and I enjoyed it.  We never run out of things to talk about.  Hope to go to Church tomorrow.  Missed last Sunday as I was very sick.  All better now and about up to speed again.

GOODBYE WAFFLES

Well I found out waffles ran the sugar up just like pancakes.  How sad.  I felt awful all day and worked to get the sugar down.  I just don't understand.  Maybe if they were wholewheat, but that is just too much trouble.  Plenty of other breakfast foods to eat.  I really should not complain.  If you ever felt the affects of high sugar you would understand.  Enough of that.  Met a lady in the library looking for something she had not read. She reads a lot and she said sometime she had to check the card to see if she had read a certain book.  And sometime she would read a book half way and decide she had read it but had forgotten it and would read it again.  Now she has a problem!!I read a lot too and I look at the check out card also and am surprised to see my name on so many.I am glad these old eyes still see well enough to enjoy reading.  So much to be thankful for==count your blessings and you will discover how many you have.

BETTER START

My day began better than yesterday.  So I decided to get a waffle at the Cyber.  Good friends,. Darrell and Earlene {a couple} were there. I took , in the absence of blueberries. chopped walnuts to top my waffles.  That was very good.  I hope the good in walnuts for diabetics balances out the bad of waffles.  We will see later. Rain gone, sun out--will be a mild, calm day in the 50's.  I have not been out of this building since Christmas day.  I may venture out for a few supplies.  Like a roll of quarters for the washing machine and orange juice  and bread and just to see if I still remember how to drive.  You would think I had been in prison but I have not been sick in so long that I am acting "giddy" to feel better.

WRONG SIDE OF BED

Is it Friday the 13th?  I declare it is.  Things started off --off.  Couldn't decide if it is oatmeal morning or egg??  I try not to eat too many eggs, and I love them.  I said "what the heck- have an egg"  First I turned over my orange juice.  Thank goodness it was already on my tray and did not go on the floor.  Then I raised up under a cabinet door and bumped my crazy head for the hunderth time.  [will I ever learn?]. I almost burned my half biscuit. which was freeze dried  anyway and poured my perfectly poached egg down the disposal.  Had to cook another one.  Of course everything was cold.  I had a little slice of left over ham and I had let it dry out , so I had to cur half away.  Not much left to go with my weak and cold "hot tea".  Oh who is me.!  Do I dare get out of my apartment?  I looked at the calender to see what day it is.  Nope not the 13th.  Rocky start--hope it gets better, at least not worse.

FEELING BETTER

If you are like me when you are sick, you prefer to be alone.  After five days and feeling better I decided I was not that good of company.  I needed to see people.  First the laundry [you get to see people up close there].  Got tired and had cheese and a coke and felt better.  I then got the boxes for Christmas storage out of the "cage"  That made me tired.  I decided to make lunch and then felt better.  Could not wait for a nap and undecorated all those treasures I so "gaily" decorated with.  Then it all looked uncluttered and I went to bed for a nap.  Went down to get the mail and buy some more juice and coke and found I had been missed by a lot of people.  So nice.  Later I  picked up my dinner and tried to watch the New Year come in.  As usual I could not stay awake.  The new year came anyway.  I hope it is a good one for all.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
