As I left my CPA son-in-law's office this morning, I turned south instead of north(on purpose) I needed to make the drive down Riverwood. I wish I wouldn't give in to the urge to do this. It did nothing for me and I only did not like what the new owners have done to it. O, they are keeping it up I think but putting their own touch to it. Well. what a thing for me to say.. After all it is their home now. I just wanted to se what was blooming. I did not see much. Wish, I think, I could see the Lake one more time. Oh well out on Old Canton and toward my "home." O boy what did I see.!!The famous Strawberry man. I thought of my two "best friends" here. I bought 3 boxes. O they smelled so good. My friends were so excited. On to Freshway market. I bought 1ear of corn, 2 yellow squash. handful of green beans, tomatoes, and one cucumber and came home feeling excited. While, the veggies are not the best yet, they are a far cry better than what I can get here. I made a small skillet of cornbread, my style.
While I enjoyed it all. I still am enjoying have someone here cook for me and no clean-up. But once in a while------ I will do it all again.

COOL AND SUNNY
That's the weather report. now the news. Sorry to build you up. There is no news . Not anything of interest. That does not stop the TV news from reporting on and on the same old thing sometime. I did enjoy a delightful singing program yesterday afternoon. The group of ladies from the Junior League of Jackson called JOYFUL NOISE sang. They have been here before. They did a fantastic job. Songs of the 40's. Right up our alley, so to speak. Must have been 40 of them. They sang and performed for 45 minutes straight. Some were young and some mot so young. They were great. Made me feel good and I am glad I went. I almost did not go, but decided at the last minute that it would do me good. And it did. Sometime I have to give myself a little push. especially after having been sick and in for a while.
I just had lunch today in the dinning room with two very sweet friends who realized I needed it. They were right-as it really did me a lot of good. That's what friends are for. Now I am doing laundry. Kind of backed up on that chore.

BREAKING OUT!!!
Even if it is only to go to the Dr.---it felt good. Don't be concerned, it was just a routine appointment with the Foot Dr. To get my toenails trimmed. Can't do it for myself anymore. Since I am diabetic and must pay attention to my foot health, that is why I need to have them done. Amy took me (bless her) and we were close to Calloway's and I had an insurance dividend check for just about the same as the cost for one of those cute watering cans Amy wrote about and mine had sailed off the balcony in a rain storm, never to be found, I bought one for myself. So there-- that felt good. We also had lunch first out here on the Lake Terrace. So beautiful today. I am planning my little balcony garden. That will be fun to have something pretty blooming out there. My Mother could make anything grow and Daddy laughed when he said the weeds would duck when she came toward them. He could grow a veggie garden like nobody else. Always tomatoes butter beans, snap beans. okra. potatoes, and peas. Can't remember what else. Of course we had a garden everywhere we lived. We depended on most of our food that way. That was not unusual then. I remember the spring brought early English peas with small red potatoes cooked slightly and milk added to the bowl before serving. O my was that good. English peas did not make a very big crop and that made them special. I think of them at Easter so they must have been ready then. Amy has set me to thinking of things I haven't thought of for a long time. Thank you, for the memories.

ALMOST THERE
Must hurry and get well. I am missing so much. Hate that. Everything happens for a reason I guess. I needed time to reflect and think. I got plenty of that. Time to move on. I have been enjoying Amy's trip down memory lane at my mother's house. Read it. This morning I read Cary's e=mail to find someone else remembers too. I remember my own backyard. We had many fun times there too. Now we renew the dyeing of Easter Eggs. Remember Bryan's beautiful egg that he dyed over and over till it was sort of black? A picnic would usually follow and Easter lunch Sunday and of the picture taking. Then off with those beautiful clothes that mothers had slaved over to make them perfect. Ahhh the memories tumble out. My Memory Bank is full of them. I will check them back in the Bank for safe keeping and let them draw a little interest, to share at another day. Everyone should open an account in The Memory Bank----It pays great interest the longer it stays there. But you must leave it there. After all we should live only in this day.

CREEPING OUT
Well I hope I don't look creepy, but that is how I feel. I think I will go down and drink coffee and skip exercise. I don't need a coughing spell for all to see. They sound worse than they are. Kind of like I am coughing up==well I will not describe it. Although my cough is so much better and not as much, I think it wise to take it slow. I think I need people. I guess I depend on them. I used to not be that way.
Be sure everybody to read Amy's blog. She has started blogs on my Mother's house. Amy loved to go there and remembers so much of the details. It was an interesting little house, which my Mother loved. It was the first and only house they owned. My family spent all of my days at home, in rented apartments and houses, which I remember well..as my growing up days were spent in some historic times. The Great depression and World War II. Lots to remember. Maybe I need to write some of it. It was not all depressing. Wish me luck as I throw off this cold and get to be myself again.

WILL LIVE
There was a question about that a some point. Nothing like a cold to knock you down. I guess as you get older -- the harder it is to bounce back. I feel like I have missed out on some things. Guess it does not matter, as long as you feel "on the mend." I will venture out tomorrow. I will probably have to skip Choir because my voice is still a little weak and I cough easy.............Enough of that subject. My CD player suddenly stopped playing. I miss it. If I could move the furniture out so I could reach the outlet, I would unplug it. Last time it did this, that helped to let it recover or something. The furniture in front of the outlet is too heavy for me so I will have to wait. O well I have TV and books to read. That should do it.

I NEED TO RECOVER
The reason I need to get better is that I planned to get a much needed haircut. I know that is a good picker upper. I am slightly better. Am afraid to get hopes up. This is the 4th day and I am getting ready to move on. My appointment is at 2:30, I'll be better by then wont I? I am going anyway-well or not.

WHY OH WHY ?
I feel so sorry for myself, now how wrong is that. I haven't been sick in I can't remember how long. But a cold must run it's course so I will hang on and try to fine some good in it. So far I haven't found it. Well I did get the St. Patrick's Day decorations down and Amy went to my cage and brought out my Easter decorations. Now some of them go wayyy back and I had fun putting them up and out . I like them the most.. Even better than Christmas ones. Well that was exhausting so I had to sit and eat some ice cream. Actually I had a coke float. Remember them? Of course you do. And Black Cow (ice cream in chocolate milk), We used to buy cherry coke at fountains. Better than the one Coke created in a can. I am now down memory lane at the first Drug store I remember. Oh how good that place smelled!!! That was when a nickel went a long way. The ice treats on a stick. Chocolate covered ice cream. dreamcickle See even the computer can't spell dreamcickle. Maybe it is me. Maybe I am full of meds.?

Oh, NOooooooo!!
Haven't felt this bad in a long time. This horrible cold slipped up and knocked me down and is stomping on me right now. I have been so well and others sick around me and I guess I felt too smug, because it is now my turn. Just a cold they say but when it is you, well it is not "just a cold." I feel bad/. Need someone to say "Betty Bones." Amy came by yesterday and dropped off O J. and cans of soup and ice cream/ She is bringing me some meds. today since I have taken all of the stuff I had on hand. May be expired anyway.
Later..........

P. S, I may not even make my bed. That would be unusual for me. Haven't stayed in my night gown in a while ==might do that too.

the gathering Livingston Merchantile
I had a real treat yesterday. Amy and Sophie picked me up for lunch at the Gathering restaurant . New in Livingston. An old town being revived. Very nice and interesting. Food and service both perfect. I enjoyed the short trip and the company. Thank you girls.
Was tired and went to sleep and woke up to miss the Antique Road show. I went down as they were packing up. I saw a few things and some were beautiful and interesting. Oh well maybe next time.

ANOTHER RAINY DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD
So what else is new? I think it will be gone by tomorrow. I hope Jan comes. I think she will. News this morning that a certain resident lost control of car and knocked a lamp post down on the outside road in front of me. Made a dent in his car and he was said to be a little sore today. You think? No damage to anyone else. New menu at Cyber starting Monday. They had a tasting of new items but I missed it. Oh well, I will see it soon. The orange sherbet muffins were flop==I trashed them. Not the first time I have done that. I will stick to my tried and true goodies for my Coffee Club.

Where would I go? O. K. rain is getting to me. I am afraid to drive in the wet weather. The J & A patrol might nab me(Jan and Amy) that is. They don't have to warn me because I don't feel safe anyway. At least I don't have that kind of pride. I know I am not as sure- footed as I used to be. Oh well what a place to be stranded. Life goes on as usual around here. Rain, sleet or snow. I sat on the Bubble yesterday and watched the ducks. I wrote a few new Haiku's. RAIN
I REALLY DO LOVE A RAINY DAY
IT PULLS ME IN
SO SAD AND MELANCHOLY
SPRING
AT LAST I KNOW SPRING IS COMING.
FEEL IT IN MY SOUL
DAFFODILS ARE PUSHING UP ALL OVER,
DUCKS
DUCKS FLOAT ON THE LAKE IN RAIN
YOU'RE GETTING WET
WHAT A SILLY THING TO SAY.
With that I take my bow,

SATURDAY DELIGHT
After breakfast with a few friends, I thought it would be a long day since Jan is on a trip and she usually highlights my Saturdays. Turns out there are other highlights in store. Karen and Jeff called and wanted to come visit. I was surprised and delighted. They found their way after saying they could see St. Catherine's had a little trouble finding the entrance. They did good since they both had never been on the grounds before. We had a wonderful visit and I proudly showed them around. Every time I show people and tell them about my new home, I realize how lucky and blessed I really am. Thank you Lord for blessings. Hope they will visit again.
I got a picture of my girls in front of Avery Island's Tabasco sauce plant. It was such a good picture--I would like a print for my album. Think I can get one? It is probably raining on their compute home. I will be glad to have them back safe.
I am going to go to Church here this morning. Another thing I hardly ever do but it is best.

SUNSHINE SUNSHINE SUNSHINE
So happy to see the sun shine at last. I had breakfast in the Cyber, For you who do not know the Cyber--It is a very popular spot here at St. Catherine's Village. Breakfast and lunch till 4'0clock. I brought my half cup of coffee up and enjoyed it in the "bubble"( the sunroom at the end of the hall.") It offers the most beautiful panorama view of the Lake. This morning was no exception. Many white gulls and some kind of black ducks the same size. Then came the Canada geese honking loudly "Here we are." The "resident Egret was disturbed and flew to the opposite end of the lake and gingerly waded in and slowly began to fish for breakfast. Also, the Mallards I thought of what was under the water and with that--how much the lake meant to all these creatures. I thanked God for the pleasure I get from the Lake. Then I don't miss my Rverwood Lake as much. It has been four years this month since Truman passed and it seems like yesterday when it happened. Yet a lot has gone on even without him. So be it!!!

AM i AFRAID?
With two daughters and three granddaughters off on their ROAD TRIP, I am a little shaky. But that leaves the strong and dependable men to hold the fort. I will be safe. Actually I am glad for them. It is a tradition they have and I think it is great. Off to La. Not California. Destination Avery Island and points in between.
I just got back from Exercise Class and Coffee with the natives. Great bunch, My favorite people. Usually I take treats to go with coffee on Friday. I caused a little excitement this morning with WATERMELOM CUPCAKES!! Yes Betty Crocker has a "limited edition" of strange flavored cupcake mix. I could not resist. Next week ORANGE SHEBERT. We had fun and they were a hit. I think I will call the number on the box and thank them. Who knows what I will find.

SLEET, FREEZING RAIN, MAYBE SNOW?
We do get excited. Maybe for nothing here in the middle of the state. Met a resident going from breakfast who said after looking at the small scatter of ice--"Is there enough shaved ice to make a Margarita." It looked like just enough, That was early(7:00.) Could go either way. I am staying in and looking out. Here is my last poem for March issue about LEPRECHAUNS.
LEPRECHAUNS
By Dot Ellis
Is your little coat red
Or is it green?
Either one, it is said.
And are you nice or mean?
A cobbler according to Folk Lore,
Mending and making pointed toed shoes.
I looked on Google-to learn more.
Of the stories I read, I was amused.
Are you three feet or four?
Do you play mean and silly tricks?
That you are a fairy, I pick.
I like to believe in the rainbow,
And it's shiny pot of gold..
I will keep searching and so-
To my dreams I will hold. Here is the one for April. Haven't run it by my "publisher" yet. So you are the first to read it
EASTER EGG MYSTERY
As I was walking down the street,
A pretty little girl I chanced to meet.
I asked,"Where are you going,
"Come see," she said, "I 'm just-a-roving."
That sparked my interest, don't you know.
I fell in step as off we go.
Up and down and around---I'm lost.
Still intrigued--at any cost.
Suddenly we came upon a big hole.
In we went so very bold,
To beauty you can't believe,
Eggs!!every color you can conceive.
Welcome to Easter Egg Land,
She announced with such glee.
It's location must be banned.
Never disclose what all you see.
I'll keep it a secret, as best I can.
Though it is hard to do.
You see, my imagination got up and ran.
What you believe is up to you!!!!

BREAKFAST WITH THE BIRDS.
Yes, I have found somebody to feed. The birds. We have been enjoying our time together for a few days. They are so lively and quick. And so hungry. What a pleasure to watch. I went to Wal-Mart yesterday. Jan and Amy worry about that. I promise I am so careful. I only take my credit card and driver's I. D. and my glasses--in my pocket. Drive up looking in all directions for someone lurking behind a car and walk with purpose very fast to the door. How is that for taking care of myself. There was a day and not so long ago, that the parking lots in Madison were safe. But it is everywhere that you must be careful.
The stores are full of Easter decorations and I must wait till After St. Patrick" s Day to decorate. One of my favorite pass time is having fun decorating. Makes my new home mine. I have been assigned to write an Easter poem. I need ideas. It is hard to keep up. I am said to be, "clever, funny, cute", with my writing. I just want them to read it. I found a copy of the new VILLAGER in the recycle bin the day they came out. Oh how that hurt!! Silly, to feel that way, but I did. Maybe the person was a fast reader?

FRIEND RETURNS
I knew I liked this computer, but when it leaves it space here, I really do miss it. Ed took it and "cleaned" it up and tho it only took a day or two, I was lost. Reading and writing is a part of my routine and I was messed up. Amy brought it back and after she left I discovered I could read my blog but could not actually blog myself. That is like telling someone not to talk. I guess I use my blog to talk to you and I do like to do that.
Fog this morning and I do need to go to Wal-Mart. I will of course let the fog lift before I go. Ever since a friend gave me bird food, I have enjoyed feeding them on the balcony. Mostly sparrows. but they are hungry too. I did see a female Cardinal and she was a little bossy-chasing the others away. Sparrows are used to being the underdog and don't give up easily . Birds and computers--something to watch and something to talk to. Lucky me.
Birds of a feather flock together,
very true I see
as the Cardinal chases the sparrow away.
I wish Linda could hear the speaker today. James Bell, Author, of THE VAMPIRE DEFENSE==a thriller they tell me. Not for me. I will just go on to Wal-Mart I guess.
